No 'law enforcement' activity can lawfully occur in your county without the sheriff being aware, or present directly, or through deputies.  No federal operation can legally enacted without the cooperation of the county sheriff's office. Its a fact.  The federal authorities have no arrest jurisdiction in the state of Michigan or any other 'sovereign' state without the assistance of local authorities, and in particular the highest local authority; the ELECTED sheriff.

What is important to remember when voting to fill this position, is whether he will be upholding the constitution, or collaborating with federal or rogue state agencies, which all too often seem to abridge constitutional protections as a matter of convenience.

We have highlighted a couple of TRUE county servants in the past.

The award is given to 3 or 4 each year, with a 'Grand Defender' being chosen from those, and announced during the annual constitution celebration event in Acme MI. This year's event is Sept 15.  The award reads:

"Has been recognized by the Constitution Celebration Committee and membership as a person of  indefatigable character,  who abides by the laws of our country, and defends with vigor, the principles of its founding by lawful means.

This persons' actions have had a positive impact on the community, and have promoted a better understanding of our founding documents through writings or actions and has shown  a willingness to resist usurpation of the rights granted by our Constitution.                    

This defender specifically represented his community as a 2nd amendment advocate, not when it was convenient, but as infringement by other authority was being advanced. He supported the United States Constitution through outreach and strength, with unfailing dedication towards preserving tradition for our children and beyond."

To say that I had a good time conversing and rallying with like minded people would be an understatement. It was a blast.

WASHINGTON, DC:  Dr. Dan Benishek (MI-01) today released the following statement after the Obama Administration announced its plan to pursue sweeping new gun control measures:

"Law-abiding gun owners in Northern Michigan should not have their Second Amendment rights restricted because of the actions of criminals that are determined to hurt innocent people.  We cannot allow our Constitutional rights to be eroded to achieve a false sense of security.

While I believe we need to have a national conversation about violence, our society's values, and the state of mental health care in this country, I don't think the President's plan to take guns out of the hands of responsible people is the answer.  Guns are not the problem, evil people are.  The only thing these proposed restrictions would do is prevent law-abiding individuals from protecting their homes, children, and businesses.

The Administration has also stated it intends to sidestep the legislative branch to implement its new gun control measures without the approval of Congress.  That is unacceptable.  The American people deserve to have this debate done the right way--in the open and with the consent of their elected representatives."

Rules are made to be infringed upon, right?

Michigan Governor Rick Snyder might not have signed on the dotted line for SB59, but it is likely it will come up again, and perhaps with some minor changes.  We can recognize the knee-jerk reactionary attitude towards firearms under the circumstances, and though it has affected good policy in our state, and perhaps the reaction does not seem logical, Michigan's situation can still be fixed. Snyder's veto was merely a reflex test result with a little jerk. Not surprisingly, NY state has a wholly different result with the knee breaking backward to smack the face.

New York's Lawmakers drive home yet another reason to .. not. live. there.  

Ignoring 83,000 babies killed in NYC alone in 2010, (nearest statistics I could find) arch leftist gun grabbers in NY State wasted no time in enacting a gun grab and (of course) a money grab scheme allegedly based on the deaths of the children in Newtown.

"Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo signed into law a sweeping package of gun-control measures on Tuesday, significantly expanding a ban on assault weapons and making New York the first state to change its laws in response to the mass shooting at a Connecticut elementary school."

Every couple years a horrendous act occurs spawning the next round of gun control measures from willing sheep throughout the nation.  Dr Suzanne Gratia Hupp explains through her own experience WHY we should not have restrictions on our ability to carry and self defend.

Her 'lesson' was as tough as any others that have been received recently.

I know we have talked about the NRA recently, and SAFR became part of the discussion.  SAFR is definitely one of the smaller representatives of Gun Owners rights, but seems to represent the true nature of the 2nd Amendment better than some other gun groups.

It was a win for the Cox campaign to see Mike Cox receive the SAFR endorsement, an important point made as the Shooters Alliance for Firearm Rights (SAFR) PAC, is one of the stronger pro-2nd Amendment leaders, with activists and voters across the state.  AG Cox issued the following statement:

"As a Marine, prosecutor and Michigan's Attorney General I swore an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America and I will continue to defend our gun rights as governor.  I am honored to stand side-by-side with pro-2nd Amendment leaders, activists and voters at the Shooters Alliance for Firearm Rights in the fight to protect the right to keep and bear arms."
