    Dillon kills primary, disenfranchising millions

So much for holding a joint primary on January 15th.  While the Democrats in the Senate blocked a new bill re-establishing the primary by refusing to grant the measure immediate effect the House Democrats discovered a new and much more creative way to disenfranchise millions of Michigan voters.

Andy Dillon looked at the schedule, saw the House was planning on coming into session today, Tuesday, November 13, 2007, for all intents and purposes the last day to get anything done on the joint primary (due to Secretary of State ballot deadlines), and he decided that the House needed another week off.  Late yesterday he cancelled today's session, effectively scuttling the last real hope for a join primary on January 15.

And with Dillon's move and the House Democrats abject laziness, regular Michigan voters lose their last opportunity to be taken seriously by any of the Presidential contenders.  Of course, that works out just fine for the Democrat field.  They've all sworn off Michigan anyways, signing pledges promising not to step foot inside the state or to ask for a single vote.

When you look at it that way I guess the Dems really had nothing to lose, did they?  Except maybe the moral high ground and the ability to avoid the all-to-accurate label of being the party that disenfranchised millions of Michigan voters.

Thanks, Mr. Speaker.  And a special thanks also to the Governor who failed to step in to correct Andy Dillon and insist via the bully pulpit that he hold the regularly scheduled session to enable normal folks across the state to vote.  It was one thing when the Democrats refused to ASK for a vote.  It's another thing entirely when Democrats refuse to ALLOW a vote.

This kills the "joint" primary for January 15.

Does it also kill the GOP January 15 primary?

Or has that decision yet to be made?

Andy "Double Dealing" Dillon (none / 0) (#4)

I don't know why anyone is surprised that a neo-communist like Andy "Double Dealing" Dillon would choose to deny the right to vote to millions of voters in the Soviet Socialist Republic of Michigan.
