    Welcome to Scoop!

To help you figure things out, there is a Scoop Admin Guide which can hopefully answer most of your questions.

    Some tips:

    • Most of the layout is changed in "Blocks", found in the admin tools menu
    • Features can be turned on and off, and configured, in "Site Controls" in the admin tools menu
    • Stories have an "edit" link right beside the "Full Story" link on an index page, and right beside the "Post a Comment" link on the full story page. They can also be edited by clicking the story title in the "Story List" admin tool
    • Boxes are what allow you to write new features for Scoop; they require a knowledge of the perl programming language to work with effectively, although you can often make small changes without knowing much perl. If you would like a feature added but cannot program it yourself, ScoopHost does custom Scoop programming as one of its services.
    • If you aren't sure where to look for a particular feature or piece of display, try the "Search Admin Tools" link in the admin tools menu.

Proposal 5 and Article V, Section 18 is Marriage Made in Heaven for Michigan

Fact is folks, Michigan has been blessed with our Balanced Budget Law... partially.  However, with every term of vote buying, and interest lobby bought off congresscritters we send to Lansing, proclaiming that R is for reverse, and D is for driving into a ditch, our bloated budget habitually reflects that like a teenager with a new license to the family car - the keys need to be restricted from exposure.  As it should be, most youth behaves carefree with their new power to blaze their own trail on the open roads, however, that still leaves mom, and dad held responsible for the family car.  It's a fact of life - when the little darlings have a fender bender caused by doing things other than paying attention to the road, any damage caused comes out of the family wallet to fix the car.

Yessirree.  Article V, Section 18 is merely PLPD coverage on the family car.  Out of pocket repair bills is exactly the exposure that every Michigan family faces with handing the keys to their little darlings behind the Lansing wheel.  What's that?  A smart family should know to also carry collision, or, Full Coverage if entrusting others with risks to the family vehicle?  Well, with just checking the old inbox, that is the message that the good folks over at the Michigan Capitol Confidential are driving home on Prop 5.

The idea behind a Tax Limitation Amendment is to make it more difficult for the political class to pilfer the pockets of taxpayers. Research -- most notably by scholar Mancur Olson -- has shown time and again that in democratic nations the wishes of an electorate are often ignored by narrow special interests that seek costly "favors" from the government. Politicians all too frequently accommodate those favors (be they subsidies or tariffs or spending hikes or other items) in part because their contributors and powerful constituents support them. Increasing taxes also is often a path of least resistance.

Constitutional restrictions are an effective way to handcuff politicians and stymie the special interests who lobby them for more money. Academic research on balance seems to show that such restrictions do check the growth of government and tax burdens, too.

Amen!  So, the natural question must be asked, why is it that the biggest opponent of Prop 5, Rick Snyder, a CEO, and CPA mind you, is behaving like a teenager who incessantly tells dumb 'ol mom and dad who are liable for his actions that he can text and drive?

The funny thing is with Halloween approaching, skeletons do come out of the closet...

    via Big Government

The Michigan Welfare Rights Organization (MWRO), headed by Maureen Taylor, has been telling Detroit welfare recipients to occupy foreclosed homes around the city. "You can't imagine," Taylor told WWJ in Detroit, "when we get to work at 9 and 10 in the morning, there are 20 to 30 people in the hallway talking about `I don't have any more money, my rent is due' - three or four months behind - what can I do? And its unreal, because we don't have answers except to say, `here's a list of houses that we have intercepted that have been repossessed by banks, pick one and move in.'" To boot these trespassers out of the homes, banks are forced to take MWRO to court.

    Rest here

Mmm, Mmm, Mmm... Barack Hussein Obama.

Canadian Magna Allows Washington Lobbyist Call For Boycotting The City Of Troy

Ya, that's a headline you won't be reading in the news, nor ever overhear the GoverNerd discussing in Lansing.  But, it accurately is fact that Magna, founded by a narcissistic liberal Canadian billionaire (Think their version of a poor man's Donald Trump who ran for Prime Minister with similar disastrous results) had their Washington lobbyist for things such as expanding union labor Card Check legislation, Corporate Tax Credits and Loopholes lining Magna Canuck pockets with U.S. taxpayer money through Chevy Volt like subsidies, just declare economic war on an American city.

Frank W. Ervin III, manager of government affairs for Magna International Inc., made the comment in an email Tuesday to the president of the Troy Chamber of Commerce, Michele Hodges. In the private message to Hodges, Ervin called the city's leaders "narrow-minded when it comes to the future of Troy and the future of Southeastern Michigan" for rejecting $8.4 million in federal aid.

In the email, Ervin thanked the chamber president for her efforts to win approval for the transit center and said he plans to draft a memo to all Magna group presidents and corporate executives "strongly recommending" that the automotive supplier "no longer consider the City of Troy for future site considerations, expansions or new job creation."

Can you get over the set on this guy?  Make no mistake about it, Frank Ervin is the Van Jones of the Magna Internationals' wealth redistribution GreenTard movement.  It becomes difficult to ignore that Canadian Magna, which surprise surprise, also owns BluWav, really hasn't left any U.S. taxpayer subsidy unturned.  TEA folk around the state might want to sharpen up and take note of their surroundings.  They've been way too soft on letting such things happening right under their noses go undetected, and let go on without objection.

    Oh, and the GoverNerd?

Michigan Senate Revives Corporate Welfare Scheme Governor Vowed to End

Bill authorizes $50 million from state for another electric car project

So, what happens with the Senates handout of $50 million in Michigan taxpayer money to Dow Chem partnered offshoot LLC's, now sits in the House Commerce Committee, or more pointedly, in its Chair, Rep. Wayne A. Schmidt's lap.  After witnessing the stellar job that Chair Wayne Schmidt has done with sitting on HB 4024 and HB 4026 for the past 11 months, what could possibly go wrong?

So, Tough Nerd, you got that veto pen of yours ready?
