State Government wants your help with new road map!

The Michigan Department of Transportation wants your help.  They're preparing the newest edition of the Michigan road map for motorists and want to know what you think should be highlighted.

And since the map will be dated 2007 and forever be identified with Jennifer Granholm's fifth year in office I came up with a few quick suggestions... just right off the top of my head...

  • A big yellow star at each of the state's unemployment agency offices so every last person making up our 7.2% unemployment rate and each of the 56,000 people who lost their jobs last year can find them easily.

  • Erase all roads within ten miles of the southern border. Maybe if they aren't on the map Michigan families won't find them and, thus, won't leave as quickly or in as large a number as they have these past five years.

  • Mark Detroit as an official Historical Site to encourage a little more tourism. After the city becomes a ghost town thanks to Senator Carl Levin's failure to stop giant CAFE standard spikes, giant spikes that the Big 3 say could bankrupt them, the city will need all the help it can get.

  • Use a special hot-pink labeling system to identify each of Michigan's "Cool Cities" because it would be... well... cool!

Other suggestions?  Lets get a few put together and help MDOT make this the most useful road map Michigan's ever seen.

    Let's not forget (none / 0) (#1)

I want blue stars on all the shuttered industrial buildings abandoned by companies that have left the state or gone bankrupt.  There would need to be a size requirement -- say, 20,000 sq. ft. -- or the blue stars would overwhelm the map!

Rename the outbound Michigan highways (none / 0) (#2)
by Rghlive on Wed Aug 08, 2007 at 05:22:17 PM EST
Michigan highways are often named for people who have accomplished significant things. That being said, perhaps we should consider renaming only the southbound lanes of some of our highways....for example, US131 (southbound lane only) could be recast as the "Jennifer Granholm Outbound". I-94 would sound (again only for the southbound)swell as the "Andy Dillon Drive[a]way". I'm sure there's many more in the current leadership who have earned the right to a southbound highway honor. Think of all the extra jobs that would be created painting and hanging the roadsigns.

    Needed Construction? (none / 0) (#4)

Hmm - how about highlight all roads in need of construction, road-worker orange?  But, that might just shade out all of the other "markers"

    Round-And-Round (none / 0) (#5)

Have the roundabouts been named yet, or the SPUI's?

An "Andrew Dillon Roundabout" would be appropriate, so would a "Democrat Caucus Roundabout."

    I think the new map (none / 0) (#6)

of Michigan should be a skeleton hand, afterall, Two Penny Jenny has killed this state.  Of course, that doesn't address the road map does it?  But then who wants to come to a dead state!

Erase all the roads on the Eastern border (none / 0) (#7)

...as long as we're remapping to keep folks from fleeing, let's consider removing the markers bordering our Canadian neighbor. Garbage truckers from Ontario wouldn't be able to navigate their trash runs into the state.
