Some media folks have expressed an interest in seeing the entire body of work from this site on the "Dele-Gate" affair.
We wouldn't want to let them down. It IS the Ides of March after all. As an aside, should anyone think this is fun, think again. While we occasionally try to offer a little humor in some of the presentation, the fight for the soul of our state party is nothing to laugh at. Some of us prefer rule of law, transparency, accountability, and an open acceptance of responsibility for mistakes made. We identify what is wrong, attempt to repair, take ownership where necessary, then move on. And others? Its about mitigating damage, but not correcting what is wrong. The lie begets the lie, and as we have all seen the same theme in the worst TV show and movie plots, it always results in more embarrassment than if the fault was accepted up front. So Fun? No. I never much cared for those shows, as it ticked me off to see such willful deceit with an obvious end. Our current reading list on this subject is below the fold. "Dele-Gate" continues, with us patient waiting for the resignations that ought to happen.
Romney supporters agree. Cheating is silly. Oh, you silly Michigan Republicans. Yes, I voted in the primary. Yes, I voted for Mitt Romney. Yes, I want to see Romney prevail in the delegate count. No, I don't want Saul Anuzis to put his thumb on the scale. Give Santorum his stupid delegate and be done with it. Intentions aside, retroactively "interpreting" the rules to favor a favored candidate smacks of dishonesty even if such interpretation is valid and squeaky clean. The appearance of impropriety is what matters, not the actuality of impropriety. And in this case we have both appearance and fact. Note the lack of a waiver (still waiting on ANY repudiation folks!) for approval of the change, prior to it happening, issued by the RNC. Thumb on the scale indeed. Merchant of corruption. Michigan GOP Chair Bobby Schostak ain't Obi Wan Kenobi.
"There is no trouble" and "The ones you seek aren't here" and all the jedi mind trick posturing that Bobby will try, doesn't change the fact that the MiGOP betrayed the trust of Michigan Republicans. The treachery so obvious, that the credentials committee, occupied primarily by a single candidate supporting crew, couldn't even get a unanimous vote in its decision to cheat. So when those of us (who support honest dealings) see from people supposedly representing our values, an attempt to subvert political process, we bristle. And then we speak out. This is NOT Chicago. And we are NOT the Democrat party. However, given the RINO Power mentality which runs the Michigan Republican party it might just as well be. And doubling down below the fold, Bobby Schostak does the "suck it up sunshine" routine, attempting to make OUR efforts at transparency appear divisive. And that festering sore, which is the MiGOP credentials committee decision to change the rules for a change the in the outcome of the Michigan primary, is still an issue.
Imagine that. Doctor, I do believe it is gangrene! And in our own civil war brought about by the corruption within the Michigan Republican party we will have to hold it down to cut off the bad parts. Sorry that it is so painful, but someone misplaced all the anesthesia. I believe ts somewhere, along with the conscience of party leadership. (1 comment) Comments >> By JGillman, Section News
You know, for the first time I agree with that Trotskyite, Shopshire, who spends his taxpayer paid office time blogging.
In a post regarding the credentials committee decision to change the rules to favor the meme that Romney carried the day February 28, RM's post invited lefty love. Kevin Shopshire, alias Communications guru, who often lashes out (thats really ALL he does) at republicans and conservatives frequently, made like a broken clock, and may have found a point where he is right for the second time in his life. Shopshire made a valid point unfortunately: Communications guru said... The point he makes is that the Republican leadership, framed the election in such a way as to ensure Mitts selection here, and when THAT wasn't as clear a win as they would like, it was obvious the rules were changed to make it more so. And that Michigan Taxpayers, including Democrats (at least those who really work for a living) are footing the bill for this Kabuki theater presentation. The "basic dishonesty of the party" meme is getting harder to defend so long as we have continued dominance by an establishment that operates not in a conservative fashion, but in one that continues to elevate those who play for power, not the good of the people.

I don't pretend to know and understand the ins and outs of internal party races like the RNC chair race, but I do know this, it makes sense for former MIGOP chairman Saul Anuzis to become chairman of the Republican National Committee. Saul has been the first to throw in for the race, and Steele is expected to announce his intentions this evening. Others who have formally announced according to Anuzis' blog are "former Bush Administration Official Maria Cino, RNC Legal Counsel & WI Chair Reince Priebus,"and," Ambassador Ann Wagner." Still, it is not clear if former Republican National Committee political director Gentry Collins is in yet, Collins left the RNC in a huff decrying Steele's ineptness at fundraising and his mismanagement of funds, nor is it clear if former RNC chair Mike Duncan is in. Regardless, the field is crowded, and may get more so. Putting aside all the politicking, my purpose for encouraging endorsements for Saul Anuzis is from a purely grassroots level.
