Yup, that's right. If you were fired up about the gay marriage issue, you should be mad as heck at this. The new healthcare "reform" is bad for a lot of reasons, but this attack on marriage should concern us all.
What happens when young adults have to choose between marriage or healthcare insurance? That is the choice coming soon to a couple near you. In the first few pages the law indicates that adults, up to age 26, can remain on their parents' healthcare insurance policy. The catch is that the individual must remained unmarried to recieve the benefit. According to the State of Michigan, 42% of men and 58% of women get married between the ages of 20 and 24. But what happens to that rate if the couple involved wants to stay on their parents' healthcare insurance until age 26? Will they be more likely to live together first? Only time will tell, but the new law gives young people an incentive to remain unmarried and live together instead. If that happens, those same couples are more likely to either not marry or get divorced if they do marry, at least according to a study quoted in the New York Times. Help us fight back against the healthcare "reform". Go to www.michiganhcf.com and request a petition to circulate. We need you to stand shoulder to shoulder with us as we fight back. Join us! There are so many things to be worried about right now in our state. Who will be the next Governor? Will taxes go up or spending finally be brought under control? With so much to worry about, it is easy to forget how angry, shocked and appalled we were when Congress passed the healthcare "reform" bill.
That is by design. It wasn't the shot heard around the world, it was more like a small cut on your foot that hurts, but doesn't look like it would kill you. Yeah, it is a bit painful; but after a few days you just move on. The only problem is that an infection is raging just under the skin and is threatening your life. That is what this healthcare bill is. We felt the initial sting, but maybe have moved on to one of the other issues that are capturing the medias' attention. While we have moved one, the political elite are busy implementing the massive regulation, new taxes and other elements of the bill. I am asking you to pause for a moment and consider again the impact of this healthcare bill on your life and on our country. There is no shortage of bad news about this bill. From Taxes to Penalties for Small Businesses, this bill is going to hurt our economy. And if Massachusetts is an indication of how our care will go, that isn't looking good either. But we can fight back!
Michigan Citizens for Healthcare Freedom is working to make sure that what happened in Canada and Massachusetts can't happen here in Michigan. We are working to make sure the government can't get between you and your doctor. To do this we need to collect 500,000 signatures on a petition to add a constitutional amendment to the November ballot. Join the fight by going to www.michiganhcf.com to find out more! Not a bad turnout for only about two hours notice.
The Coffee Parties only could wish they had a response rate like this. {Continued below the fold}. (283 words in story) Full Story By Wendy Day, Section News
Politicians love to stand beside 10th amendment resolutions declaring state sovereignty and smile, especially if the resolutions don't cost them anything politically. But there are a few resolutions floating around Lansing that have risen to the surface as having real potential for Michigan Tea Party Patriots to rally behind. These could have a significant impact on the future of our state. The time has come for State action in the health care debate.
Common Sense in Government is working with the great Tea Party groups around the state to plan rallies to educate people about these resolutions and how a Michigan constitutional amendment could protect us from the draconian federal health care plan. We need our State Legislators to step up and stand with We the People. Read more... (363 words in story) Full Story By Wendy Day, Section News
Throw out the textbooks. There is no need to read the Declaration of Independence or U.S. Constitution. No need to read about the Greatest Generation or Founding Fathers. No need to learn about America tearing herself apart and putting herself back together again to right the wrongs of slavery and segregation. Nope.
In fact, there is finally a book, and now movie, that gives the honest social progressive view of American history. The People Speak is a documentary to prove just how sexist, racist, and elitist America is. Howard Zinn wrote A People's History of the United States and now brings us The People Speak. He is portrayed as a revolutionary, except that now most standard textbooks mirror his view of American history. The History Channel is showing The People Speak; and it may be coming to a classroom near you. The movie is social progressiveness at its best. There is a stream of Hollywood faces, including producer Matt Damon. Here is one example from the movie: "Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness" was originally "Life, Liberty , and Property." According to Howard Zinn, the "Property" label proves the Founding Fathers were elitists. He claims that the Constitution was designed so that slave owners could run the country; also that the Bill of Rights was only added after protest, against the original intent of the Founding Fathers. The reality is that "Property" was changed to "Pursuit of Happiness" because the Founding Fathers didn't want further the cause of slavery by giving more credence to the terrible institution. The Founding Fathers originally wanted to include the term "Property" because without the right to own property, people cannot be free. Do we need to hear voices of dissension to honestly look at our Nation's history? Yes. But the history so many of our children are learning is almost entirely voices of dissention. What has fallen out of fashion is teaching about the good in our history, the heroes. Howard Zinn tries to bring down the American heroes and undermine the greatness of our country. Yes, America is flawed- because people are flawed. But I, like so many of you, believe that America is great. America has always held the promise of liberty. That is why so many fight to come here. What frightens me most about this one-sided negative view of America being taught as truth and beauty is that if we give up the will to fight for our country, we will surely fail. If we feel like offering apologies is more appropriate than fighting for freedom, we will fail. And if we believe this view of American history, we are more likely to land on the side of apology. What kind of stories would have been in this book if written 100 years from now?
Bottom line- ask your child's teachers and your local school boards about this film. Will they be showing it? Will they be showing some counter story, like the HBO miniseries John Adams? This will be a good litmus test for the condition of our education systems and its treatment of the history of our great nation. Will your school pass the test?
