    Welcome to Scoop!

To help you figure things out, there is a Scoop Admin Guide which can hopefully answer most of your questions.

    Some tips:

    • Most of the layout is changed in "Blocks", found in the admin tools menu
    • Features can be turned on and off, and configured, in "Site Controls" in the admin tools menu
    • Stories have an "edit" link right beside the "Full Story" link on an index page, and right beside the "Post a Comment" link on the full story page. They can also be edited by clicking the story title in the "Story List" admin tool
    • Boxes are what allow you to write new features for Scoop; they require a knowledge of the perl programming language to work with effectively, although you can often make small changes without knowing much perl. If you would like a feature added but cannot program it yourself, ScoopHost does custom Scoop programming as one of its services.
    • If you aren't sure where to look for a particular feature or piece of display, try the "Search Admin Tools" link in the admin tools menu.

    Major Withdrawal From MI4CS

You may recall this article that I wrote about some tea party organizations in Michigan having some concerns with a group calling itself "Michigan 4 Conservative Senate."  In it, I mentioned several misgivings about an attempt to unify the tea party vote eleven weeks in advance of the filing deadline, and in fact attempting to unify the voices of the Michigan tea party network at all (coordinate, yes; unite, not so much).  Given everything that's come out and been discussed about MI4CS since then, and given also that the straw poll convention is this coming Saturday (scheduled for 25 Feb 2012, from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. according to the River City Patriots), I thought that I should tell you about a major development . . . following the break.

MIGOP 2011 State Convention - Vice-Chair Election Results

Just before the 2011 MIGOP State Convention, Troy Rolling, who was Bobby Schostak's challenger for MIGOP State Chair (and who was running without a Co-Chair candidate) withdrew his name from consideration, and his withdrawal letter was presented at the district caucuses on Friday night.  This left now-Chairman Schostak running unopposed.  After he and his co-chair Sharon Wise were unanimously approved by the General Session on Saturday, and a few speeches (Ron Weiser actually referenced my interview with him during his address), the convention got down to the business of nominating, supporting, and electing the MIGOP vice-chairs for the 2011 - 2012 term.  Those results, and some other observations, are below the fold.

My report on the convention follows the break.

Michelle Bachman Event In Grand Rapids

As the state's chief executive, Rick Snyder has a long-standing right accorded to all such chief executives: that being the right to indicate his preference for his party's state chairmanship.  Should he choose to exercise that right, as he has done in endorsing Robert Schostak (the sitting MIGOP Finance Chair), then it is with the expectation that his preference will be respected.  Moreover, of the seven or nine names that I've heard tossed about as possible challengers, none save Troy Rolling (the sitting MIGOP Grassroots Vice-Chair) has emerged as an actual candidate, and I'm not sure that Rolling's challenge should be taken seriously.

But Mr. Schostak is a wise man, and he is well aware that the voting delegates of the Michigan Tea Party Alliance (who will carry considerable clout on the state convention floor) require some convincing before they'll buy into his candidacy.  It was with this very thing in mind that he scheduled a couple of events - occurring on December 28th - with the leader of the Congressional Tea Party Caucus, Michelle Bachmann.

Kent County Democrat Party meets the TEA Party of West Michigan

Levin at KCDP PicnicSomething entertaining happened in Riverside Park (that's on the north side of Grand Rapids, for those of you unfamiliar) on Saturday afternoon.  To read the article from the Grand Rapids Press, you'd think it was the presence of our esteemed Senator Carl Levin at the annual Kent County Democrats Annual Dogs & Suds Picnic.  The good senator was apparently there to discuss the stimulus package, the national debt, and cash-for-clunkers.  He also told the local party faithful about his push to get President Obama to appoint a panel of health care specialists to flesh out details of the president's universal health care plan.

Evidently he wants to have that panel hosted somewhere other than in DC, where the panel won't be so vulnerable to attacks.  Definitely in the Midwest, maybe Michigan.  According to the senator, "There's a firestorm of rhetoric and misinformation around this historic issue."

How truly he had spoken, and how inaccurate he was.

    ABC Healthcare Infomercial Protest-Rally

The TEA Party of West Michigan is holding a protest outside the WZZM-TV studio in Grand Rapids.  The focus of this protest is the President Obama infomercial in support of his Nationalized Healthcare plan.  The information I present below the fold is from both the Independence Caucus and the Republican National Committee.  We so need to do this!
