Mr Camp.
The groveling for permission from their federal masters continues as the Ways and Means chair says "pretty please" to one of Obama's cronies. From THE HILL: Reps. Dave Camp and Fred Upton endorsed Michigan's request Thursday in a letter to Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius. Michigan asked HHS last week to phase in new requirements that govern how insurers can spend their money. Remember a few days ago? You know, when you and 200+ other Repbublicans had a royal flush backed up with cards up the sleeves, and a gun under the table? You DO REMEMBER, right? You know, a couple days before you folded to a pair of Jacks, held by a guy with a blinky eye "tell", and an audience of investors who were counting on the congress to FINALLY HOLD THE LINE. Right? A few days before the market hit the skids in the worst way in two years. And then the guy holding the jacks? He spent $240 Billion of his "winnings" in one day. Oh yeah, that's right you guys have a memory problem. ~ More Below ~ (2 comments, 490 words in story) Full Story By JGillman, Section News
(and the new Roman senate)
Even the moderates in Michigan should be filling their drawers with the end result of the debt solution. The "solution" provided by our castrated leadership demonstrates a complete ignorance of the constitution in the face of the elements which desire the destruction of said document. They poured on the gasoline, and our delegation lit it. No congressman from Michigan should have voted for the debt ceiling increase without fully understanding what he or she was doing. Even then, to do so, was to retire from the obligation of the office held. And this is not about money.
How can a committee created to craft legislation that is composed from members in both houses exist? Though the 17th amendment destroyed the separation of people and state representation as planned by our founders already, it still did not change that the houses would be separate. This "super congress" committee of 6 from each house is a blasphemy to those who still believe in the protections afforded by our founders with the TRUE law of the land; our constitution. We weren't able to collect enough signatures. It was tough, we didn't have as much time as typical ballot initiatives, but the results were not so bad.
From the NFIB:
"Although we fell short of the number of signatures required, the results are unprecedented in recent Michigan history," said Charlie Owens, NFIB State Director. "Critics who are dismissive of our efforts would do well to consider this fact in light of ongoing efforts that will continue through the elections in November." The NFIB was the only state business organization to participate in the petition drive. They at least tried. So did a great many of us in a great many parts of the state. My own count nowhere near the efforts of some others even locally. One NFIB member brought in a couple hundred by herself, and that was in a first time of signature gathering. Others in the 912 groups and Tea Party organizations worked hard as well. And even those who felt it was too much of an uphill battle gave it a shot, not because they thought it would happen, but because it was worth it. We have truly committed citizens who are willing to spend their time on those things that matter for our country. THEIR time. Sadly, this report brings news of others who should be happy about the efforts made, yet find some way to sour on the unselfishness of the effort's organizers, participants, and the very effort itself.
