    Welcome to Scoop!

To help you figure things out, there is a Scoop Admin Guide which can hopefully answer most of your questions.

    Some tips:

    • Most of the layout is changed in "Blocks", found in the admin tools menu
    • Features can be turned on and off, and configured, in "Site Controls" in the admin tools menu
    • Stories have an "edit" link right beside the "Full Story" link on an index page, and right beside the "Post a Comment" link on the full story page. They can also be edited by clicking the story title in the "Story List" admin tool
    • Boxes are what allow you to write new features for Scoop; they require a knowledge of the perl programming language to work with effectively, although you can often make small changes without knowing much perl. If you would like a feature added but cannot program it yourself, ScoopHost does custom Scoop programming as one of its services.
    • If you aren't sure where to look for a particular feature or piece of display, try the "Search Admin Tools" link in the admin tools menu.

Cronyists Line Up To Smack Down The Little Guy

The main street crony action force is out.

What better way to insure higher prices, less competition, and bigger bureaucracies than to pass the so-called "MainStreet Fairness Act"?

A letter being sent today to the Michigan Congressional Delegation makes the following claims:

    • "The signatories consist of a wide spectrum of constituencies, including small business owners, members of state retailers associations and chambers of commerce, local elected officials, and consumers, all who want to see this commonsense highly oppressive solution signed into law."
    • "This is a critical issue for small businesses. They not only struggle to match the tax-freeShipping and logistics added prices their customers can find online, but also frequently find themselves in the frustrating position of having their stores used as showrooms by online shoppers.  Their time and resources are being used up to make sales for their out-of-state competitors."
    • "Opponents of the Marketplace Fairness Act have tried to argue that it imposes a new tax on consumers.  But that is simply not true.  The Marketplace Fairness Act will impose no new tax or tax increase of any kind, but merely create a method that states and communities can use to collect taxes they are already owed. An incredible bureaucratic nightmare for low volume sellers who are struggling to deal with increasing regulatory conditions already.  For over two decades, the Internet sales tax loophole has prevented these taxing entities from receiving the legitimate revenue they need to fund essential public services for our residents leaving a revenue hole that taxpayers have had to fill."

Strike out emphasis and editing mine.

It is an increase in the cost of business.  An increase in the complication of business. An Increase in the growth of government.  An increase in prices as the big box stores and larger internet retailers regain their advantage over the mom and pop enterprises.

Its cronyism.  Pure and simple.  BIG MONEY pushing the little guy out, and using the hammer of government to do it because that 'little guy' keeps competition in place.

I have said before, that there IS a way to solve this, and for the states who collect sales tax to get their revenues, but this cluster foxtrot is not a good path.  Any congressman worth his or her salt would recognize a disaster in the making for what it is.

Tyranny waits for no one.  Contact your rep now.

A Message To Our Legislators - Beware False Choices

    MIGOP Misses The Point

    Again.

The MiGOP chair once again screwed up an opportunity to mend fences with the conservative base.

Bobby Shostak hoping to catch some of the CPAC love fest action for Michigan Republicans makes this announcement about 86th House District Representative Lisa Posthumus-Lyons who was featured and honored as one of the Conservative Political Action Conference's (CPAC) 10 conservatives under 40. Lyons District is in Kent and Ionia Counties, and serves as the Assistant Majority Floor Leader. :

"Rep. Lyons is a tremendous leader in Michigan and she's a strong advocate of the common sense conservative policies that are resulting in Michigan's comeback."

    The release continued:
" Rep. Lyons is recognized as a "Rising Young Conservative Leaders," which relates to CPAC's theme this year, "America's Future: The Next Generation of Conservatives. New Challenges, Timeless Principles."
    Timeless principles?

"Timeless principles" must have a meaning I am not familiar with. Perhaps its those progressive principles they call timeless. If this is the next generation of conservative, I'm out.  And a note to our MiGOP, the activists you will find below the fold are just a few of those who would disagree with this blind accolade.

Very much so - Continue on below.

URGENT : Tell Matt Lori (r) You Expect Better than his Latest Attempt to Increase Regulations, Drive up Health Care Costs and Criminalize Cold Medicine!

Supposed Republican Matt Lori and his friends in the mainstream media have been blazing a trail to higher health care costs, bigger government and increased regulations this week in their fight to force you to see a doctor before you get your kid her over-the-counter cold medicine.

I said it on Wednesday, and I'll say it again today...

When daddy or mommy are considering whether or not to go grab a bottle of Triminic, Flintstones gravel throat annihilator, or one of the wildly popular alternatives to give a some relief to little Suzie with the runny nose and scratchy pipes, the last thing they should have to concern themselves with is an appointment with the family doctor.  A $7 bottle of cold medication that if Michigan state representative Matt Lori has his way could cost another $60-$100.

And just how well exactly does Lori expect this sort of nonsensical spike in regulation to go over in the year of the Tea Party?

Enough is enough.  Please pick up your phone now.  Yes, right now.  Then dial one of these numbers to reach Lori's Lansing office and tell him enough is enough:

    Phone: (517) 373-0832
    Toll Free: (877) 262-5959
