I just received Rick Snyder's email message.
For the governor candidate with the most staff and biggest operation, he really should find someone more clever to write his emails. (2 comments, 294 words in story) Full Story By conservativefox, Section News
The Detroit Free Press had a very interesting bio piece on Rick Snyder this morning. I'm surprised I'm the first commenting on it (my guess is the Snyder's camp will not be sending this story around).
Below is a passage every conservative needs to read, it's from the bottom of the story so I cut/pasted it below: "He [Rick Snyder] supports using human embryos to create stem cells for medical research. He favors government recognition of rights for gay and lesbian couples much like those accorded married couples. He opposed the ban on race and gender preferences approved by Michigan voters in 2006." After reading that, begs to question.... what party is Rick Snyder a part of, because those are NOT the ideals of the Republican Party. I am so tired of the divisiveness in the GOP right now. I'm not suggesting we check our principles at the door, all join hands and sing Kumbaya. I don't think we need to move closer to the center of the political spectrum. Nor do I think we need to move farther to the right. This isn't a line dance people - this is politics. We don't need to all agree on the position of every single issue. I think our "platform" has gotten too big. We just need 2 or 3 main principles at the most that the majority of the party can agree with and rally behind an inventive, charismatic, strong candidate. For too long we have tried to please everyone in the big tent and it will NEVER happen. You cannot pander to factions within the party. If we try to stand for everything we will end up standing for nothing. We have to not only allow for diverse opinions, but relish in the idea of diverse ideals. Diversity allows for growth - which is what we desperately need. The big tent party idea has worked in the past and can work again. Historically the big tent approach wins election. There is no need for everyone in the party to agree on all the issues. There shouldn't be a litmus test on single issues that determines whether or not someone can be truly considered a Republican. If we try to narrow our ideology and "get rid of the moderates" or force the far right to abandoned their principles we cannot win. Sure we might win a race or two with that approach but we cannot regain national power with that approach. While we are at it, let's abandoned the term RINO. We are elephants - not rhinos. Let's just retire the term RINO. If you want to disagree with a position(s) someone takes, go ahead and disagree with the position(s) - but the name calling just has to stop. The name calling within our own party does not bring us closer to winning any elections nor does it help grow our depleted party numbers. By Nick, Section News
When Rick Snyder's name first started bouncing around the Lansing press corp as a potential 2010 GOP Gubernatorial candidate I started getting calls and emails. Who is this guy? Where did he come from? What has he done in the Party?
As a guy who prides himself on knowing (or at least knowing OF) everybody in and around the Party in this state it pains me to no end to admit this... I had to tell them I had no idea. And I didn't. Rick Snyder? Umm... who? Snyder has never been involved at the activist level. He's never been involved with the Michigan Republican Party or the State Committee. Never met him at a Convention. Don't remember bumping into him on the Cox (02), Bush (04) or DeVos campaigns and he isn't in my blackberry. (After traveling for two years with a guy like Dick DeVos, that's actually saying something.) But that doesn't mean I wasn't able to do a little digging in the time since, and among other things, I've learned the man wasn't lying when he told the Michigan Business Review that he's a "moderate" Republican. Color me disappointed. "Moderate," fair readers, is code for one thing and one thing only when it's followed by the word "Republican"... weak knees on the life issue and unequivocal support for abortion-on-demand. "Moderate" almost always means pro-abortion. Sure enough... according to the state's campaign finance records, the Ann Arbor Venture Capitalist has given a few bucks to GOP candidates over the years but Snyder's only political giving at the state level during the 2008 campaign was to the Cure Michigan campaign. Those are the folks who successfully championed a stem-cell ballot initiative to allow the state to spend tax dollars on 100% obsoleted, 100% fatal human experimentation. According to Open Secrets' federal campaign finance reporting database, Snyder is also a regular donor to Democrat John Dingell, giving the ultra-liberal thousands of dollars over the better part of a decade. Synder has also shelled out big bucks to a group called "Its My Party Too PAC." IMP-PAC is an arm of the so-called "Republican Leadership Council," a group of "moderate" GOPers. According to their website:
RLC-PAC's vision is a Republican Party that is unified by the basic tenets of fiscal responsibility and personal freedom, but that allows for diverse opinions on social issues by its members. Their big names are notable and outspoken pro-aborts Tom Ridge and Christine Todd Whitman. It's a one-issue PAC. Abortion-on-demand. As far as the inside-baseball goes, Snyder is surrounding himself with former John McCain associates and I can confirm that his campaign is being headed up on the ground by former national McCain strategist John Yob. (John is also the son of former RNC National Committeeman Chuck Yob.) You can read the Review's biographical information at the link above and you can check out the Ann Arbor News's coverage HERE, though, a word of caution, Judy McGovern lists the loooooong since departed Dick DeVos as a potential candidate, so up-to-date and accurate information might not be her strong suit.
