After spending a good part of last year blogging for the man who would take the First District of Michigan away from liberal Bart Stupak, and put it back into the hands of mainstream conservatism, I take serious umbrage at the use of the words, "Stupak amendment" and "Stupak language." Bart Stupak was not a conservative Democrat, nor was he a "blue dog." His "Stupak amendment" was actually the "Stupak/Pitts amendment," and it became known as the "Stupak amendment" only because he was on television and radio constantly for a month prior to the vote on Obamacare saying that the bill would not be passed without "his" amendment, banning the use of federal funds for abortions. His constituency, and many social conservatives throughout the nation thought that Stupak was going to stop Obamacare. After watching Bart at town halls and on tv and radio, I knew he was not going to vote against Obamacare. He said so at a Cheboygan Town Hall, and took a position of high morality on abortion against the likes of Pelosi and Obama. He ended up getting a useless executive order which meant nothing from the most pro-abortion President this nation has ever seen.
So it really becomes too much when Fred Upton, a fellow Michigander and fellow Republican continues to use the words, "Stupak language," and "Stupak amendment." (1 comment, 630 words in story) Full Story By jenkuz, Section News
First off, I'd like to open with a joke. Bart Stupak is going to be teaching at Harvard.
Side-splitter. Bart Stupak is pleased that he has retired from Congress and insists that he has done the right thing in voting for Obamacare. He made it clear during the fight between him, his constituents and the nation that he would not allow the healthcare bill to pass with federal funding of abortion. During March of this year, he was on television and radio daily assuring everyone in the nation that the final passage of "health care for all" would not contain the federal funding of abortion. Dr. Daniel Benishek is running a positive campaign for U.S. Congress in Michigan's First District. He gained national attention within hours of Bart Stupak's press conference on March 21st, 2010, when he announced he would vote for the health care bill. It was widely accepted that Stupak had betrayed his conservative district with his decision to vote for the Health Care Bill. Radio talk-show host Mark Levin had Dan on his radio program the next day, supporting him over Stupak. A flurry of television and radio appearances followed, including Sean Hannity, and Neil Cavuto. With help from the grass roots and the Tea Party Express, Stupak made a decision not to run for re-election. In a 6-way race for the primary, Benishek won the district with just 15 votes ahead of long-time State Senator for part of the district, Jason Allen. Allen made a decision not to ask for a recount, and Benishek would move on to face a Democrat challenger, Gary McDowell and three other candidates. Below is a list of important names and endorsements of Daniel Benishek M.D.

~ Promoted by JGillman because I will be discussing this later as well ~
In the aftermath of the very close MI01 Republican primary, won by Dan Benishek of Crystal Falls by 15 votes, several things have transpired that has tested the friendships and trust of tea party members and patriots, and the movement itself. From a news release May 20th, 2010:
BENISHEK PLEDGES TO REPEAL OBAMACARE
"The so called "Health Care Reform Bill passed by Congress earlier was not the will of the people and it will not increase the quality of care, in fact it will lower it," said Dr. Benishek, "It's good for neither a patient's health nor a patient's wallet."
The "Repeal It Pledge" has been signed by lawmakers, candidates and citizens from across the nation. As of today, State Senator Jason Allen has not signed the pledge. Dr. Dan Benishek is a general surgeon who is running for the vacated seat in the First District of Michigan, previously held by Bart Stupak. Jason Allen, State Senator from Traverse City, who moved to the First District to run for Congress has a different take on the so-called healthcare bill. Before anyone starts yelling at me for dogging Jason Allen, I want to point out the differences in philosophy, that is all. I've spoken with Dan numerous times, and he is a principled conservative. Even when Obama has said, "They're actually going to run on a platform of repeal in November...Go for it," Dan is holding firm. Why? Because he knows what it will do to healthcare and the country. Now, when asked recently what he would do about the healthcare plan, Jason Allen said the legislation needed to be overhauled and repealed. "I'm looking for a positive discussion on how to get government spending in check, create jobs, and overhaul and repeal the Obama health care plan." Overhauled and repealed? Why would you overhaul something, in an effort presumably, to make it less objectionable, then repeal it? Perhaps he meant that upon taking office, his first move would be to work within the system offering legislation to cushion the blow of this nasty take over of our freedoms. But, that is the wrong approach. The proper approach to tyranny is conservatism., a philosophy, the only philosophy that can thwart this path we are on to despotism. Working within the system, offering bits of legislation, taking nibbles at the Obamacare monstrosity is exactly what we do not need. No, we don't need someone who will happily work with the Democrats and come to an agreement. Dan said it right in my Exclusive Interview with Dan Benishek: I asked Dan if he plans on repealing the bill. "That's my goal." What's the first step? "As I said, we need to elect people to congress who will vote to repeal it, then try to defund the bill as best as we can." But the people need to vote, if we can't get conservatives elected, and a whole lot of them, this can't be changed. (4 comments) Comments >> By jenkuz, Section News
From C.J. Williams, Michigan's News and Views
On August 15, 2008 `Detroit International Bridge' contributed $5,000 to Sen. Jason Allen's Administrative Fund. "Hmmm, interesting," thought I. "It might be enlightening to dig into this and see what Allen could possibly be doing to earn the gift." To paraphrase the late Paul Harvey, what follows is part of the rest of the story.

From the Benishek campaign:
In the race since March, Benishek files first

At 4:00, on March 21st, 2010, Bart Stupak (D) MI01, informed the nation that he was going to vote yes on Obamacare. Described as a pro-life Democrat, Stupak led the media and the nation on for months and months that he would not allow the bill to pass with federal funding of abortion. He had received a useless executive order from the most pro-abortion President this country has ever seen, and Stupak's fate was sealed. He lost the endorsement of the Michigan Right to Life, and the Tea Party Express began it's nationwide bus tour targeting him for removal from office. Not only that, but immediately after his press conference, Republican Dan Benishek's popularity soared.
