"Fairness" is an inappropriate word.
Why are we as taxpayers paying dues for this organization? Its sole purpose is to find a way to extract more money from people who buy things under the guise of "Fairness." Formed in 2000, its "about us" page says: "The goal of this effort is to find solutions for the complexity in state sales tax systems that resulted in the U.S. Supreme Court holding (Bellas Hess v. Illionis and Quill Corp. v. North Dakota) that a state may not require a seller that does not have a physical presence in the state to collect tax on sales into the state"And it has since organized members from several states to that end. First, I should point out that compliance will NEVER be as simple as whatever their ultimate outcome is touted to be. The burden on small business increases yearly with nearly every law passed by our state legislators, and especially so with the efforts of the US congress and administration. Unable to absorb new duties/responsibilities as designated by all the elected busy bodies without significant time for compliance measures WILL destroy small business in America; resulting in higher unemployment, and deepening resentment for overreaching government. For a little deeper look into this issue, and about the organization above go to Grass Roots In Michigan. At one point she mentions that: "SSUTA moves towards taxation without representation in two ways. First, state lawmakers' authority regarding significant portions of state tax codes is given to an outside entity, moving representation further away from those states' citizens. Second, businesses outside of such states are subjected to taxation - not limited to, but including sales / use tax - but have no representation in those states' governments."THIS, I can tell you is a nightmare scenario for an internet retailer. Keep your ears to the ground on the "Main Street Fairness act" and fight it when you see it. (3 comments) Comments >> By JGillman, Section News
The Michigan state house education committee has received three bills worth checking out.
Each one promoting a better understanding of the history of our country and the reasons for its founding.
But we applaud such measures as worthy and restorative for our state and country. (6 comments) Comments >> By JGillman, Section News
That people who value the constitution should be concerned about.
No 'law enforcement' activity can lawfully occur in your county without the sheriff being aware, or present directly, or through deputies. No federal operation can legally enacted without the cooperation of the county sheriff's office. Its a fact. The federal authorities have no arrest jurisdiction in the state of Michigan or any other 'sovereign' state without the assistance of local authorities, and in particular the highest local authority; the ELECTED sheriff. What is important to remember when voting to fill this position, is whether he will be upholding the constitution, or collaborating with federal or rogue state agencies, which all too often seem to abridge constitutional protections as a matter of convenience. We have highlighted a couple of TRUE county servants in the past. Continue below the fold for who they were, and more good news. (516 words in story) Full Story By JGillman, Section News
Saw this, and thought it was an interesting way to say "A Dollar a day" could do wonders for a candidate far more appropriate for the job than the current occupant.
Of course, sending a check for $20-$50 every couple of weeks or a month instead, could save you a ton on stamps too. (1 comment) Comments >> By JGillman, Section News
I feel for the residents of Royal Oak Michigan.
The not-so-benign cancer of Homophilia is metastasizing again in yet another community that will not likely consider the effects of the day's new Political Correctness movement. The question being asked of Royal Oak voters is yet another false one. It has been asked so many other times in other communities across the state, with supporters equating non-support, as having 'Jim Crow' like bigotry. Outside money and activism is being concentrated in Royal Oak, not to stop any rampant queer-hunting problem, but to continue a well planned city-by-city effort by those outsiders to maximize the acceptance of homosexuality as an activity that requires no decision making or choice. In other words Royal Oak? On Tuesday, its apparently time for you to get your freak on. Special rights for a behavior identified identity and related higher incidents of mental and physical affliction is truly what is on the ballot. Organizers even admit it is an outside effort, and has an ultimate mission: "Those in favor of the human rights ordinance, leading a campaign called One Royal Oak, said their effort is a single step in a well-funded statewide effort. They want to add similar ordinances to a growing list of Michigan communities, which now numbers 29, according to Unity Michigan Coalition, a Kalamazoo-based political group behind many local gay rights initiatives."And before this conversation becomes defined as 'hate speech' or 'bigoted,' lets remind folks that no one can identify a single example of "rights" not available to those who engage in homosexual acts. No one.
In fact, the entire argument is merely one that forces acceptance of that chosen behavior no matter its consequence socially or medically. Their argument itself is one for ending freedom of association, of First Amendment rights, privacy, and due process. And as much as I would love to NOT have to engage in this argument, from time to time it is clearly necessary. (1 comment, 826 words in story) Full Story By Corinthian Scales, Section News
Didja notice that? When John McMaverick condescended to us lowly peon citizens, Jane Fonda got a twinkle in her eye. That's what is wrong with the GOP. H/t Freedom Outpost (3 comments) Comments >> By JGillman, Section Multimedia
Straight Up Mr Bentivolio.
Debt is supposed to be temporary.
To continue expanding each time the government has used up the resources already taken from us (and several generations beyond) is ludicrous. (2 comments) Comments >>
