Driving the point home about exposure, and the options we have, the United States Senate race in Michigan is becoming a prime example of all that is wrong in the Republican machinery's selection process. The elite attitudes that exist not only in the establishment Republican circles, are all too often exhibited by those who will be asking for our financial and logistical support in the coming year if successful in the primaries.
And while I recognize the value of Reagan's 11th commandment, there is a lesson that needs to be given. Yesterday, our local party chair talked about how we need to pull together to support and elect Republicans. Especially given the election's importance, and how badly we need to get rid of Obama. Most agree with that assessment. We need to rid ourselves of Obama, and all the legislative creatures who allow him to continue his destruction of our country. And to do so, it takes cooperation from our elected officials who fly under the Republican banner, and especially those who would presume to occupy particular seats in congress or the Senate, or even the presidency. Cooperation that certainly showed during the Herman Cain event a month ago. Mr Cain showed up, drew over 1200 folks from our tiny area of the world, and allowed the local party to get info from interested Republicans that will be oh-so-important in the year to come. Information that allows us to reach out and inform of special events, fund raisers, and get-out-the-vote efforts that can make the difference in any of several races when needed. We helped Cain, and Cain helped expand the party influence. We would do the same thing for a Romney, Gingrich, Bachmann, etc. visit, even if Cain were the top guy and still in the race. Its good to look at all of the messages, and let local Republicans choose who best represents their views. Frankly its the BEST way to advance the Republican vision. But apparently some of our politicians are too big for the party. At least our tiny part of it. More Below ~ (25 comments, 964 words in story) Full Story By JGillman, Section News
Another round (a little out of order) from the Traverse City Debate sponsored by the Grand Traverse Republican Party.
The Social Security Question.
Interesting responses. However, When one looks at the bigger picture of this Ponzi scheme, it seems that some further out of the box answers may be necessary. Opting out perhaps? I wonder what Pete Hoekstra or Clark Durant would say? Shame they didn't show up for this GOP sponsored event. Enjoy. Another video will be available later. By JGillman, Section Multimedia
This second round has the candidates explaining how they would deal with what is one of the most egregious anti-constitutional laws put on the books in our nation's history.
What about Obama care? What should we do about it? As we look to the possible results of next year's elections, the Senate will be playing an important part in how this is handled going forward. If the SCOTUS says it stands with an expected ruling in April of 2012, it will be especially important to have Senators who are principled enough to destroy it from within the body of its creation. It was too bad that candidates Hoekstra and Durant "couldn't attend" this debate, as it would have allowed us to see how committed they are in reversing the trend of big government mandates and encroachment on our rights. Perhaps for Pete, and his record, its best to stay "mysterious" so that some are easily fooled into thinking he might actually carry sufficient principle into this fight when its time. As For Clark, I don't know him well enough yet. Maybe a video response by either of them would be a sufficient way to answer? Gentlemen, its an opportunity if there ever was one. As promised, here is round one of the Grand Traverse Republican Senate Debate in Traverse City, Michigan.
Less Government, more individual responsibility, and with God's help a better world. Do you have a problem with that as a Senate principle to follow? Each of the participants had 2 minutes each to answer.
In the morning I should have the remainder of the questions available. By JGillman, Section Multimedia
The Grand Traverse County GOP last night held a debate/forum at the governmental center in Traverse City, inviting all of the candidates for US senate to help us determine who might be best to occupy the seat now held by leftist Sen Debbie Stabenow.
Five conservative candidates vying for the Republican nomination felt its was worth their time to speak on matters of national importance, policy and principle. Scotty Boman, Gary Glenn, Randy Hekman, Peter Konetchy, and Chuck Marino attended the affair, with Pete Hoekstra, and Clark Durant conspicuously absent. This particular clip is an introduction by the moderator, and a follow up self intro by the candidates. I will be processing the video for each question separately and will post here as they are finished. (1 comment) Comments >> By JGillman, Section News
"Every child learns differently."
This is the underlying message you will hear quite often from those who are a part of, or advocate charter schools. The message simply stating that more choice means that more parents and children will have more options, and the opportunity to fully engage in the learning process. It means they will be better prepared, and have the best chance to succeed ultimately. The public schools as mandated currently, are a trap. With a singular model (for the most part) that relies on the MEA and the NEA and union literature to determine educational materials, and streamline a single path of learning that robs children of their chances to succeed. And it doesn't have to be that way. As it was related to me by an operator of a school up here, the teachers in some of the charter schools are actually re-trained from the public school model, and provisioned with the ability to identify particular learning traits in the children. Some kids respond to different types of education styles both positively and negatively. As there is no doubt we all have different things that inspire us, it should be no surprise that learning can be enhanced by discovering that which holds the students attention longer. New Options equal New Opportunities. For Michigan, there is hope with SB618. It is a bill which allows the creation and operation of new charter schools, and opens the doors to new cyber school possibilities. It creates new options for both private and public education interests. Its a chance to move the bar upward, and offer the benefits of competitive advantage to our kids. And by golly even some on the lefty side of the fence get it. (BELOW) (3 comments, 371 words in story) Full Story By KG One, Section News
While I like the message that the Tea Party Movement has conveyed locally and nationally, one of the things that has always concerned me is the fact that it is too quick to jump into bed with the republican candidates.
Yes, I know that its genesis came from FreedomWorks, which is connected to big players from the GOP, and that part of its focus was to build up grassroots (ostensibly to support republican candidates). But less government, lower taxes and more freedom, who could argue with that philosophy? {More of this after the fold} (3 comments, 552 words in story) Full Story By Corinthian Scales, Section News
Pete is obviously banking on the Party's coronation as a win against Sen. Stabenow.
