To help you figure things out, there is a Scoop Admin Guide which can hopefully answer most of your questions.

    Some tips:

    • Most of the layout is changed in "Blocks", found in the admin tools menu
    • Features can be turned on and off, and configured, in "Site Controls" in the admin tools menu
    • Stories have an "edit" link right beside the "Full Story" link on an index page, and right beside the "Post a Comment" link on the full story page. They can also be edited by clicking the story title in the "Story List" admin tool

Rep. Miller: The State of Michigan Continues to be an ATM for the National Flood Insurance Program

Sometimes you have to give credit where it is due.

This is not the call for an end to bloated government that abuses us, but it is a good start in examining the worth of programs that are designed to provide advantage to those [WHO DECIDE TO LIVE IN] in high risk areas.  Looking forward, there are a lot of federal government programs that involve the states, that should be dealt with in like fashion.  For example, Michigan is a donor state with our road taxes coming back to us less than 100% of what we send DC.

U.S. Representative Candice Miller (MI-CD10) recently sent a letter to the Michigan Governor Rick Snyder requesting that his administration and the Michigan Legislature explore possible options for allowing Michigan to opt out of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).  Miller said:

"The NFIP is a broken and unfair federal program that must be eliminated.  This program continues to spiral into billions of dollars in debt - currently reaching $28 billion and no end in sight.  The NFIP is inflicting financial harm to Michigan residents across the state by forcing many to pay excessive premiums for flood coverage they don't need to subsidize the artificially low premiums in flood prone states.  For instance, according to the Federal Emergency Management Agency, NFIP policyholders in Michigan paid $315.5 million in premiums and received $60 million in claims over the period from 1978 through 2012, a ratio of over five dollars paid into the program for every one dollar received in benefits.  In the same time period, the state of Louisiana paid in only about one dollar for every four it received in benefits.  That is what happens when rates are set by political considerations instead of actual risk.  In short, the federal government is a bad insurance company and should not be in the business.

"I continue to ask the question - why in the world is the federal government in the flood insurance business?

Or any number of other enterprises I would ask, but we can start here.

Miller - Resignation Of [IRS] Miller "Bare Minimum"

U.S. Representative Candice Miller (MI-10) yesterday commented on the resignation of the acting commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Steven Miller:
"The recent revelation that the IRS took steps to intentionally target a range of conservative groups is deeply disturbing, and the acceptance of the IRS acting commissioner's resignation today is the bare minimum that the President should accept.  Asking the Treasury Department to further investigate itself is not good enough.  The Administration must consider appointing an outside special counsel to make certain that those responsible are brought to justice.

"The American people will not stand for this blatant affront on free speech and harassment.  The truth must be brought forward, and the Congress will hold firm on bringing all those responsible to the forefront and ensure the proper protections are in place to protect each and every citizen's constitutional rights.  The American people must be able to trust their government, and in this case clearly there was abuse of power.  That cannot happen in America."

    Indeed.

There should be non-stop congressional hearings on ALL the activities this administration has been involved in.  The IRS is merely the tip of the proverbial iceberg. A special investigator should not have hands tied to merely THIS violation of first amendment rights, but should be encouraged to root out ALL the corruption Obama has cultivated during his term.

    And those roots run deep.

A Message To Our Legislators - Beware False Choices

And How Are Michigan Legislators Weighing In?

Bozell: GOP Talks to Exempt Lawmakers and Staff From ObamaCare "Ultimate Hypocrisy"

Today 'ForAmerica' Chairman L. Brent Bozell III released a statement regarding reports that Republican leadership in Congress is in secret negotiations to exempt themselves and their staffs from ObamaCare.

"Recent news reports reveal that the Republican leadership in Congress is participating in the ultimate hypocrisy: months of secret meetings with Democrats to betray the most important promise they made to their supporters in 2010. Rather than forcing repeal of ObamaCare, they are discussing exempting themselves and their staffs from it. This is what Third World dictators and tyrannical kings do - they create mandates for the supposed `good' of the peasants, while exempting themselves from the burdens of their whims. Our message is clear: stop these secret meetings immediately and get to work defunding and repealing ObamaCare so everyone, not just you and your staff, can be freed from its burdens."
    Been on THIS before.

Back in 2010 Dave Camp PROMISED to defund as a mission of last resort, the Obamacare act that inappropriately bears the name "affordable". If I am not mistaken, we are at the last resort stage now.

    Hello, is this thing on?

We should remind our legislators that their words of promise have become meaningless, and the line between those whom we would call 'Republican' to the evil that is progressivism, is truly blurred.

Know which side you are on or get the hell out of the way.

    A Method To The Madness

There is a reason I publish the press releases.

It opens a dialogue to Michigan's representatives. Our folks who travel to that distant land to make the rules and spend our monies. They presumably speak and act for us, so its an opportunity to remind them of their mission, and the things they CAN do. They can subpoena, they can investigate, they can IMPEACH! But one thing that is as relevant as anything is in the financial end, and affects our prosperity.  So a question should be asked and answered.

With Congress having the power of the purse, why on earth is the EPA, the NLRB, the BIA, HHS, DOE, DOE-2 (ed), and HUD still funded?

I would argue that simply eliminating these agencies, we not only reduce or eliminate the deficits, but we also spark a new round of economic prosperity.  Each agency is a block in some way to innovation, individual rights, and the ability for the little guy to get ahead.

    • De-fund the EPA, and the producers can catch up to the overzealous regulatory controls.  Congress itself should have such power.
    • De-fund the NLRB, and the Job creators can stop worrying about the feds up their butt when staffing changes are necessary.  There is no constitutional allowance for the existence for the NLRB anyhow.
    • The BIA?  Why do we still have nations within our nation?  And why do we allow their citizens to participate in OUR election process when there is no way we could do the same. As an FYI, there are things that can be done on the RES that are not constitutional.
    • HHS holds the key to Obamacare.  If it is gone, so is Obamacare.  Why is it still operating? Could Candace Miller check that for us?  How about it Dave Camp? (Who said it was on the table when I asked in 2010)  DR. Dan? Mike? Justin? Fred? Kerry? Tim?!
    • The DOE has been around long enough to see to it that no nuclear power facilities are developed in decades, Coal resources are allowed to be blocked by the EPA, Natural resources are closed off to energy production, solar power is presented as a viable alternative and is mandated, and our technology is exported to competing world powers.  Higher energy cost due to its existence kill job creation. Whats not to love?
    • The DOE-2 (dept of education) offers no advantage over state directed curriculum.  It burdens our schools with dumbing-down CORE mandates, and funnels precious tax dollars to non performing institutions. It has no mandate under the constitution.  Schools are not a federal concern.
    • Finally, there is HUD. Under this monstrosity, the milking of America is complete. There is nothing that compares to a new subsidized housing project in a community that is once thriving, but then is overwhelmed by the type of people who occupy them.  Festering hives of poverty develop where HUD sets up shop. I have spoken to more than a few emergency workers who have experienced the urbanization of HUD.  Their towns and cites are in shambles.  The calls to these places of government largess are far in excess of those in suburbia or rural non planned environments.

HUD is a cornerstone of A21 as well.  The leveling of America to the lowered European standards that the entire world should enjoy.  Communities are promised grant moneys through HUD to install their honeycombed urban dwellings in areas that have no need for the moneys. Naive local governments find these things hard to resist. Free Money, though ignored is the ongoing cost of inviting a permanent welfare settlement.

We de-fund and eliminate HUD, and people have to actually WORK to pay for their housing once more. Working builds wealth. Wealth is a nation's strength.

And frankly, its perfectly alright if the United States of America were to actually try to be the best again.

Miller Praises DC Court of Appeals Ruling

    Good times.

Miller Praises DC Court of Appeals Ruling: "The Constitution Must be Followed"

WASHINGTON - U.S. Representative Candice Miller (MI-10) today released the following statement after the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit found that President Obama violated his appointment power established in the Constitution by making recess appointments to the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) when the U.S. Senate was not actually in recess.  Miller said:

"The U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit today sent a strong message that the President is not above the ultimate law of our land, the Constitution.  Chief Judge David Sentelle said it very succinctly in the unanimous ruling, `Allowing the President to define the scope of his own appointment power would eviscerate the Constitution's separation of powers.'  Our Founding Fathers when drafting our Constitution required the President to secure the advice and consent of the Senate for certain appointments to the government for very important reasons; foremost among them to prevent the abuse of power by any President.

"The court ruled that the appointments made by President Obama to the NLRB are constitutionally invalid.  Because of this, the board no longer has a quorum and cannot conduct business unless the decision is stayed pending appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court.  It also calls into question whether all of the decisions that the board has made since these unconstitutional appointments are invalid.  This abusive overreach by President Obama has now thrown the important work of the board into uncertain territory.  President Obama must respect the limits on his power enshrined in the Constitution and work appropriately with the Congress on all matters required by the Constitution to conduct the business of our nation."

Now how about the unconstitutionality of a foreign born occupant in the white house?  hahaha  just kidding..  everyone knows he was born in Connecticut, and his name is really Harry..  and he is over 100 years old.

Of Course Big Labor Has Michigan GOP Friends

The politico has a list that reveals only one of the top ten GOP recipients of labor largess to be our very own Ms Miller. Explained is that only 13% of labor's political cash influx goes to Republicans, it should still be noted over $50k is significant, and influential:
Overall this cycle, about 13 percent of labor groups' political action committee contributions -- just over $2 million -- have gone toward GOP candidates, according to data compiled by the Center for Responsive Politics. That's still dwarfed by the nearly $14 million in union cash that's gone to Democrats this cycle, but the GOP appears to be gaining ground with union donors after receiving only 6 percent of total contributions in 2010 and 8 percent in the 2008 cycle.

They know they better spark off the RINO contingent.

Someone needs to have their backs as the suffocating grip of reality threatens their very existence.  Government-Union partnerships are soon to be a thing of the past, and the country will be better off for it.

Also, as each of the traditionally safe Democrat seats become threatened even more, labor has a few buck left over with each cycle, and while the "big O" refuses to help with the pipeline thing to satisfy his ecologically nutty friends, they may not wish to give him their boost.  For now anyhow. I guess labor needs to show its own bipartisanship.

    Right.

No, we shouldn't be surprised at this list containing at least ONE of Michigan's representatives hitting the teat of the big L. There are others just down the list, but shining the light on Candy M right now simply drives home how close some are to the dark side.

KG, you up for that fight?

CD10 Candice Miller has seen good and bad about her on these pages.  We call it like we see it, and frankly that is what serves the state best.

Her current amendment will serve us best as well.  And we would be remiss to not agree with her assessment that National flood insurance should end.

H/T to the NetRight Daily guys!

Candace Miller Takes a Stand on Cap & Trade

You know around here there is sometimes a pretty severe lack of support for our elected folks who stray from the reservation too far, and somehow don't even recognize when they have done so.  It can be an ugly sight.

Among some of them, Candace Miller has been the target of more than a few words on occasion within these pages because of political stands which fly in the face of what many of us see as "right" or at the very least "Republican" even when her primary opposition is far worse..  Of course sometimes.. we HAVE to do that.

At the same time, it is highly appropriate to laud the efforts, or at the very least note the quite proper commentary Representative Miller has published on behalf of Michigan and its punished economy due to the great global warming hoax.
