    Raise the curtain.

You read that right.  After the signature gathering primary election fact, smear merchant write-in Nancy voted for expanding Crony Capitalism that continues to spell doom in Pontiac, and Corporate welfare in Detroit.  Her vote.  Sure, ringleader L. Brooks Patterson is able to appear as the mack daddy of SE Michigan, if, or the reality is, when Oakland County is able to keep them taxpayer subsidized, write-in Nancy approved pie plates spinning in the air.  All it takes is for folk like them, is to reach into Joe Taxpayer's pocket to do it, and now, L. Brooks Patterson is pushing the DIA tax hike too.

"Taxes go to projects that are worthy, whether we use them or not," Patterson said, noting that when he travels around the world to recruit business, he is always asked about schools, neighborhoods and cultural amenities. "The DIA is a huge opportunity for me to answer that question in a positive way. It's an economic development tool for me."

Or not?  Holy bejesus!  Why don't you have another cocktail, Brooksie?  You too, Nolan.

    Now, the truth below.

Some of you SE Michigan dupes are going to love what Patterson and Oakland Co commissioners has in store for you property owners.  The hardcore facts.

State Representative Tom McMillin, R-Rochester Hills, has been outspoken in his opposition to the millage. "It is clearly a false, manufactured crisis," he said in an interview. "Businesses will pay a lot more than $15 per year and, in total, they'll be taking $230 million out of the pockets of Metro Detroit families and businesses, which is just plain wrong."

Noting the DIA has "$100 million in unrestricted cash in the bank and another $75 million in restricted endowment," McMillin said the museum's net assets have increased by $50 million over the last two years. They have approximately $23 million per year in operating expenses last year, and they bring in about that much in revenues. They actually increased their operating fund by $2 million."

The Oakland County bonus with Detroit's tax-exempt oligarch gravy train theft of your tri-county money?

Sue Ann Douglas, a retired Oakland County commissioner, says the DIA tax is "downright unfair and deceptive. The ballot question never names who the tax is for, yet a SMART millage on the same ballot for the opt-in communities is very clear."

She added that Oakland County Commissioners decided to charge the tax even if it fails in the other two counties but passes in Oakland. "It is absolutely unfair that a county with only 19 percent of the visits could end up being the only one paying the DIA tax," she said, adding, "I am concerned about what would happen should Detroit end up in bankruptcy or under an emergency manager. Will the collection be sold off while we pay?"

Vote it down Wayne, and Macomb counties!  Stuff 'ol L. Brooks Patterson with the tax hike.  Nice cabal you republicans have out there in Oakland County.  Or not.  ROFLMAO

Folks in CD-11 would have to be certifiable nuts if they vote for back-room brokered write-in Big Government Nancy.

Kerry Bentivolio all the way, baby!

    To vote for Kerry.

Nothing beats the old "it will bring jobs here" line. I'd love to see the looks on execs' faces when Brooksy says "nevermind the tax burden or the politically backed unions who will pick your pocket -- we've got a big ole MUSEUM that's right in the middle of the ghetto! NOW what do you think about relocating your business to our region!?"

Is Brooks suffering from senility? (none / 0) (#3)

"The DIA is a huge opportunity for me to answer that question in a positive way. It's an economic development tool for me."

Has he so quickly forgotten where the Chrysler (R.I.P.) World Headquarters used to sit before moving out of to the 'burbs?

That vendors and reps DREADED visiting there because, some of them, literally feared for their lives?

Yeah, I can just hear Brooks now describing the visiting the DIA "in a positive way":

Oh yeah, we have this great art museum called the DIA.

First, only take the freeway when you're going there.

You don't want to take any of the surface streets. It's not safe.

Once you get off the freeways, make sure that your windows are rolled up and your doors locked at all times.

Since you're not from around here, I'd advise ignoring those red lights and stop signs, too.

I wouldn't want to hear about you getting carjacked. You really don't wanna know how many people are killed in Detroit every week.

And once you do find the museum, good luck finding a safe parking spot.

The Farnsworth Structure has been closed for months. The Science Center lot has irregular hours, at best. The CCS kids can't drive if their life depended on it. And for God's sake: NEVER park on a side street. You may not have a car when you get back.

Other than that, enjoy the Art Museum.

    Hey, wait! Wheryagoin???
