My conservatism has a home.  It is in the Republican party.

I deal with those on both sides of the aisle daily, but relate better to those in the Republican party for a number of reasons.  Some of them are below, but the list is hardly complete.

Republican Principles as presented on the MIGOP website.

    I'm a Republican because...

I BELIEVE the strength of our nation lies with the individual and that each person's dignity, freedom, ability and responsibility must be honored.

I BELIEVE in equal rights, equal justice and equal opportunity for all, regardless of race, creed, sex, age or disability.

    Continued below the fold ~

    Continued
I BELIEVE free enterprise and encouraging individual initiative have brought this nation opportunity, economic growth and prosperity.

I BELIEVE government must practice fiscal responsibility and allow individuals to keep more of the money they earn.

I BELIEVE the proper role of government is to provide for the people only those critical functions that cannot be performed by individuals or private organizations, and that the best government is that which governs least.

I BELIEVE the most effective, responsible and responsive government is government closest to the people.

I BELIEVE Americans must retain the principles that have made us strong while developing new and innovative ideas to meet the challenges of changing times.

I BELIEVE Americans value and should preserve our national strength and pride while working to extend peace, freedom and human rights throughout the world.

FINALLY, I believe the Republican Party is the best vehicle for translating these ideals into positive and successful principles of government.

    And allow me to add:

I BELIEVE in the principles held by MOST Republicans, such as Responsibility, Honesty, Integrity, and Wholesomeness creates a better platform for personal success, influencing future generations, and creating a better society for ALL.

I BELIEVE Openness in government and in our political enterprise creates a better environment that GROWS trust, and within the party structure, a more cohesive force for advancement of Republican principles.

I BELIEVE in personal integrity that relies on rules of common sense and application.

I BELIEVE the end does NOT always "justify the means", and that tenacity, coupled with integrity will overcome evil.

    Remember this from last year?

    Gone right out the window

When someone from the Mi-GOP with a significant title after their name ever grows a spine a decides to reply, please by all means, let us know!

There is a Republican Institutional syndrome, and it's not just in Michigan. To quote another long time observer:
"If Santorum wins the nomination, I expect the GOP establishment to do the same thing to him that they did to Joe Miller in AK after he won the GOP nomination. He played the game by the rules working within the party and then... New rules! Conservatives are not allowed to win even if they win! So the Rovian progressives persuaded the corrupt Murky Murkowski to run independent where she won because of all of that dirty money.

That is why it is such a major mistake to be pledging to vote for whichever candidate wins the GOP nomination. While they can count on our votes, we can't count on theirs. So long as conservatives always end up voting for liberals, there is no reason to take us seriously. We should be serious about 3rd party."                       Pasadena Phil, February 18, 2012
