For the MCSC entries. GREAT! But what are those?
Some of you may recall, in 2009 the wife and I dedicated $500 to the winners of a writing contest. The Michigan Constitutional Scholarship Contest was designed to be annual, and was going to be funded by our business year after year. It was an effort to encourage our youth to look a little further into what is probably the best users manual ever crafted by man. It was an effort to get the children to go beyond the established and failing curricula mandated from an agency in Washington, and propagated by disinterested tools of the labor movement.
And we reached into our pockets to make it happen: "But the difference.. Its OUR money.. Its not money ostensibly being "returned to the citizens" for the payments made into the health care system. Its not money stolen from us in the name of "investment." It is $500 (or more)that could buy a new computer, a desk, (if you ever visit.. you'll note I built my own..) or some.. gimmicky advertising."But last year wasn't so good. Business seemed to be OK, but receipts were off, and everyone had a reason to not pay their bills. (To us) We couldn't fund it any longer. This is how it goes in business when an expense exceeds the ability to pay (psst, hey feds? A lesson here.)
The important part below the line.
But its back!
Thanks to Celebrate the Constitution, and the Constitution celebration, the Constitutional Scholarship contest has returned with a real potential reward for a little effort. The prizes are now: And the deadline has been extended to August 29, so for the next two weeks, grab the rules, let the kids know there is cash to be earned, and get us some entries. The winners will be announced at the Constitution celebration in Traverse City, September 18. They need not be present to win, however its a free event, and who wouldn't want to hob-knob with greats like George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Ben Franklin, or Samuel Adams?
