I really hate to have to go here..
As many of you might have noticed I have not really made a mention of Glenn Wilson when covering Benishek, McDowell, and the fight to take the CD1 seat back from the lefties. My 'omission' Stemming from the realization that any more attention to the man who might siphon votes from Dan Benishek, might fuel Wilson's efforts, and guarantee the end that still might happen; a McDowell win. Funny, how it's something that I may well have railed about in years past watching debates that did not include 3rd party candidates. What is not funny, is the reality that Glenn Wilson is not Stupid. Nor are many of his followers. Yet they continue onward in a path that leads them to more of what they might claim to oppose. Any gains by team Wilson mean losses for Benishek. They speak to the same issues, and let there be no doubt McDowell, and the lying Michigan Democrats will take advantage of that. A Donkey could well hold the CD1 seat because of Wilson. But speaking to the same folks, and being the same.. have very different meanings.
Many who sided with Wilson initially are my friends. I still consider them to be friends, and expect that to remain the case. But I have politely chided them about the very real possibility and outcome of this race, and Glenn's effect on who might take the seat. As things tighten up, his presence in the race becomes more clearly one of the spoiler.
More clearly for most folks, but something many of us have realized for some time. It was that possibility which brought about the 'conditions' under which some of his staff would work for him. It was that possibility that allowed him to get any attention that he could not purchase by himself. And the failure to move the percentage counter out of the single digits, brought about an early October shakeup resulting in the loss of his campaign manager Rich Carlson and some other supporters. There was a deal... If Glenn's numbers didn't significantly improve, then he would withdraw and support the most conservative (Benishek) candidate rather than allow it to go to the leftists. But Glenn reneged. Add to this, the FEC not allowing him to borrow money for the campaign using his company stock as collateral, made it all the more unlikely he would ever gain any traction. He didn't, they quit, yet he persists. One might argue, that being such a smart person, he must surely know he hasn't a snowball's chance in Hell, Michigan, on a hot summer day, but there he is. And it really might not matter if Dan Benishek had an 8 point lead, but currently due to the hard core funding by the Democrat party, his lead is quite marginal. Marginal enough for Wilson's 3 points to possibly make a difference. Polling by the Hill shows a 42-39 advantage of Benishek over McDowell. this means Wilson seeks the 16 points of those 'other votes'. I just wish he would have run on the Republican ticket in the primary. But he didn't. Perhaps Wilson, is a lot like so many 'anti-2 party' folks who get so wrapped up in their beating the system down mentality, that they become somewhat blinded. They pursue things in a straight line that lets them NOT SEE what is going on, and in his case, is just stuck in 5th gear and headed down hill. This would explain what appears to be his failure to file his campaign finances by the deadline. While Glenn Wilson is in high speed pursuit of ..something, at about 100 miles an hour on a 45% grade, in his specially painted RV, he has forgotten to list that which has funded this detour of sanity. While Benishek and McDowell have both completed their legally required paperwork, it is the 'doing what is right team' of Wilson which has seemingly put aside such mundane requirements as financial reporting. It seems his latest reporting was June 30, Benishek and McDowell both dutifully provided their information on the 30th of September. But there MUST be money flowing for such things as this trip below.
I openly wonder about which pocket the expenses for such political junkets comes from. Without the reporting being done, it seems we might not know. But one might think 'a personal jet,' flown by a "citizen candidate" has likely a corporate sponsor. Of course we cannot allow the simple failure by Glenn to secure a loan, based on the value of his corporation, to stop his campaigning ..for McDowell
..can we?
