With supporters from paid volunteers, Rick Snyder bought the straw poll. It's really sad.

I'm actually not all that offended by it. (none / 0) (#1)

The straw poll is what it is. It's where the participants were leaning in the vote. How does one win easily? Increase the base. Snyder bought it, but he took advantage of the system. Some college kids got a free trip to Mackinac too. The good news is that the party and hotels got some money from Snyder because of that.

I'm no Snyder supporter at all because of his center-left views and inability to answer questions, but I'm not that offended by this. Snyder needed some momentum, and did what he had to do to get it.

The thing to remember is that the primary election is almost 11 months away, and the candidates all know what's going on with this straw poll, and won't be scared off by it. There's also the Mitchell poll out at the same time. Cox was winning there, then Hoekstra, then Bouchard.

I went up as well. It was great. We are ALL Republicans.

Only 1244 straw poll votes cast.

Snyder had to have a victory to prove he is a REAL candidate.
The poll can be used to show MIGOP that a candidate is motivated, well organized, well funded, and very serious about intentions of winning in Nov. Rick has proved that.
He also needed serious name recognition - and now he has it.  Bouchard, Cox, and Hoekstra really did not need to win this poll, this poll was really for Snyder and George to get on the political radar screen.

Rick has a good option that stands out from the other candidates - making citizens of Michigan the 'Customers' of Lansing.  An attitude that Lansing SERVES the Taxpayer.  His ideas of measuring outcomes from State Government is good one - as long as the right measures are used.

Measuring Lansing is a 'next step' up from the Transparency issue that Terri Land accomplished so well at the SOS office.  We need more performance measurements.

Again - we are all Republicans.

I want to tell you that it's great to have you post, as well.

As you know, we can actually nip and bite around here.

I'm very encouraged that you're tough, resilient, and brave. These (imo) are important characters for a good Republican and what I consider conservative as well :P

I look forward to hearing from you often!

This goes beyond a straw poll (none / 0) (#11)

They're trying to buy the party:

"Run with Rick is recruiting candidates across the state to run for Precinct Delegate, State Representative, and State Senate who pledge to adhere to the team culture, ethics and believe in Rick's vision and Top 10 principles. The program is aimed at changing the culture in Michigan and in order to do that the state needs to dramatically change the leadership. The campaign is recruiting additional Precinct Delegates to grow and strengthen the party and new State Representatives and Senators who will help Rick usher change in the Era of Innovation."

    Requirements

    1. Michigan resident 18 years or older
    2. Committed to working with Rick to Reinvent Michigan and usher in the Era of Innovation.
    3. Committed to the Rick for Michigan 10 Guiding Principles
    4. Committed to the Rick For Michigan Team Culture.
    5. Committed to the principle that Reinventing Michigan is a cause greater than self interest.

I'm guessing that as many districts as they can recruit in will have "Run with Rick" candidates if the announced candidates don't support the Snyder campaign. And they're going to try and pack the convention to get their AG and Secretary of State candidates on the ballot, as well.

Create, Reform, Fix, Create, Restore, Enhance, Protect, Reform, Reform, Bring.
Words that sound good with absolutely no substance nor hint of how Snyder would "Create" a better Michigan.  Michigan doesn't require Reinventing as stated on his website, Michigan requires actions that put all people who can work back to work.  Yes, even those who don't want to work.
I would ask Mr. Snyder, respectfully, to tell us specifically what he would do with taxes, regulation and Big Michigan Government sooner rather than later.

If He could make the S into an O (none / 0) (#14)

As people have already said the magic words without substance abound and there is the use of young paid volunteers to create a buzz.  The slogan fix Michigan.

All He forgot was "Yes We Can". Oho yeah and the big O with love inside.

I agree with those saddened.  To bring the Republican party to imitate the worst of the liberals badly.  I guess those he is a mouthpiece for still feel we must appease and be nice to our comrades in arms or some such twaddle that has gotten us in the mess we are in.

Maybe the new party they are trying to start needs a name.  I have one we can call it the Yobicans rhymes with "yes we can" with an accent and an "S".  Perfect.

If He is so opposed to Professional Politicians he shouldn't accept money from and hangaround with or put them incharge of his campaign.

Remember too that A convention similar to the events at Mackinac will determine our SOS and AG.  Why do we want that>?  Someone remind me.

Oh yeah maybe because a couple thousand votes are easier to manipulate than a general primary.

I'm not the best public speaker (I can get by, but I'm no Reagan), but I can give a lot of reasons why I can support a candidate without using the same ole political-speak talking points that come out of a press release.

I heard he brought 500 to the island but he only got 384 votes....he got almost everything he paid for...kinda sounds like our current governor...is that how he ran his business or maybe there was such a margin...com'on computers in the 90s....that it didn't matter.  See what kind of businessman is he/
