Who are the NERD fund donors Mr Snyder?

    Raise the curtain.

    More of the same

The state of the state does not look good and it appears Michigan lawmakers are going to make things much worse.

I received an email update on the Michigan budget proceedings from my representative Vicki Barnett.  In the update she said that she would vote against any budget cuts for public schools.

I sent her an email asking what budget cuts she would support.  In response, I received an message from her Legislative Director Kyle DuBuc.  Dubuc responded thus:

This latest round of reforms follows many years of reductions in the cost and size of state government.  Over the last six years the state's general fund has been reduced from $11 billion to under $7 billion (a 50% reduction when adjusted for inflation); and over the last 10 years the size of the state's workforce has been reduced by 20% with no decrease in workload or requests for services.   This all has taken place while the state income tax rate decreased steadily from 6.3% in 1983 down to 3.9% in 2005, where it remained until 2007 (when it returned to 4.35%).  Also in that time period several significant tax cuts were passed at the federal level, and yet, as you pointed out, Michigan's economy has still experienced substantial difficulties.

The paragraph was designed to give me the impression that the Michigan Legislature has instituted spending cuts equivalent to 50%.  This is nothing more than a subterfuge designed to fool the economic illiterate.

The reduction in general fund "revenue" is not due to any sort of fiscal responsibility on the part of Michigan lawmakers.  Instead, the reduction in "revenue", is a direct result of liberal policies that have the state mired in an 6 year, 1 state depression that has consistently put Michigan's unemployment rate at close to double the national average and created an environment hostile to business and productive enterprise.

As a result, less wealth is being created, less people are working, less income is available to tax and despite an 11% increase in the personal income tax rate and a 100% increase it corporate registration fees general fund "revenue" has decreased.

Unfortunately, according to MyWay dot com, the only solutions Lansing can come up with are more of the same policies that created the current situation.

Republicans want Democratic lawmakers to propose and pass tax increases, giving the GOP possible fodder to use against Democrats in next year's elections. Democrats hope to get a leg up by painting GOP lawmakers as willing to hurt children rather than reinstate estate taxes on the rich.

Instead of cutting taxes and creating a business friendly environment Michiganders are more than likely to get more policies, from both sides of the aisle, that further deteriorate our state and economy.

    God help us!

How about a budget cut in all areas like this: "... cash cow ... always ... a pickpocket's scam to begin with and everyone knows it." Special thanks to The Wizard of Laws et al.

They even want money for having your hair washed!

    RMGN- Any tax cuts here?

Not that being business friendly would help.

Even 18th century solutions worked far better then...some of this stuff!

Last year the Michigan legislature passed a radical energy package that was designed to...destroy. Well, at least that's working!

Where the freakin' heck does this help MI, much less anyone?

Anti-business and strong central government: Is Obama working with Granholm or is Granholm working with Obama...I'm not tryin' to be funny here!

This is still a favorite article. Along with the comments, it's an education...on education.

So yeah, why cut spending in education when we can see that more and more and more spending is great for politicians. And we thought it was about education, duh. But oh glee, think of the bang for the buck, all our children being tolerant experts in condom usage.
