The logic is flawed in this one... (none / 0) (#18)

...it is difficult for anyone to keep track of a large number of inane, pointless regulations when filling out an application.

Well, there really aren't a whole lot of regulations concerning the design of the petition.

You can even have the petition pre-approved before you go to work.

Besides, this really isn't a hit on free speech. Want to run under your own political party without all the bullshit? Run as a write-in, and then advertise the hell out of yourself under your political party. The only thing that the petition does is get the party on the ballot - that's all from what I can tell (someone correct me if I'm wrong).

    As for this:

Finally, this also bothers me because if anyone else used the wrong font on their ballot, then they'd be certified anyway.

    Really? They would?

As for your theory that the "complex" argument doesn't apply within a tax-law context:

*By the way, while I agree that the tax code should be simplified, I do not wish to imply that I think it is unconstitutional. The Constitution specifically allows for the government to levy income taxes and there's nothing in the Constitution to say how complicated or uncomplicated such a tax must be, meaning that such laws are best determined by Congress.

    and
This argument does not translate to the tax code because it does not involve a constitutionally-protected right.

    You may want to reassess.

For example, 501(c)3 organizations (IE, tax-exempt organizations which allow donors to deduct donations on taxes) can not get involved in political campaigning.

Uh oh. Your beloved cry that congress is best left to work the tax code as they see fit contradicts your claims of government infringed free speech.
