      Rule of Law (none / 0) (#13)
by Seth9 on Fri Sep 03, 2010 at 12:05:33 PM EST
My view on regulations is that any law that restricts a constitutional right without a substantive reason and merit is unconstitutional. As such, these regulations and the method by which they are being applied serve to undermine the Constitution and by extension, the rule of law. Thus, they should be overturned.

The font used to write out the name of a new party has absolutely nothing to do with whether that party should be allowed to form. If the ruling was that the FTP's clear intentions to violate numerous, substantive election laws disqualified them from forming a party, then I'd be fine with it. But instead, the ruling makes a precedent where the government would be allowed to create a set of laws where you have to use a different type of font on every single line of an application to form a party and a failure to use the right type of font on every line means that your application will be rejected.

*By the way, while I agree that the tax code should be simplified, I do not wish to imply that I think it is unconstitutional. The Constitution specifically allows for the government to levy income taxes and there's nothing in the Constitution to say how complicated or uncomplicated such a tax must be, meaning that such laws are best determined by Congress.
