    A Flawed Premise (none / 0) (#6)

You can point to the statistics all day long about reductions of revenues to business. The economic / employment climate has changed dramatically since the law was passed.
"(Oddly, they seemed to have successful business plans for all those years.)" I'm thinking that people didn't just frequent businesses only to smoke; they can do that anywhere else, (for now). They can go outside, and enjoy their product. This type of legislation has been imposed in several other states for many years and I can personally attest that when I was visiting, business didn't suffer.
I would attribute falling revenues to overall fewer disposable dollars for people to spend and some smokers are making choices to enjoy their tobacco product that does create a dependency rather than frequent business establishments for eating and drinking or for any other non-necessity.
It's very unfortunate that a liberty has been lost, but the few that were intolerant of the majority of non-smokers brought this upon us all and were able to motivate non-smokers to persuade enough of their fellow citizens to urge their representatives to use the heavy hand of government legislation. Why couldn't that 20 percent of people who are smokers in a restaurant have stepped out to smoke, even occasionally? Only if they could contain their gasses. It can be changed within our culture but for now, no civility, no consideration exists in measure and we need that desperately in our society now or we are doomed to more of these incremental government interventions.
