  • Your New Scoop Site

    Welcome to Scoop!

To help you figure things out, there is a Scoop Admin Guide which can hopefully answer most of your questions.

    Some tips:

    • Most of the layout is changed in "Blocks", found in the admin tools menu
    • Features can be turned on and off, and configured, in "Site Controls" in the admin tools menu
    • Stories have an "edit" link right beside the "Full Story" link on an index page, and right beside the "Post a Comment" link on the full story page. They can also be edited by clicking the story title in the "Story List" admin tool
    • Boxes are what allow you to write new features for Scoop; they require a knowledge of the perl programming language to work with effectively, although you can often make small changes without knowing much perl. If you would like a feature added but cannot program it yourself, ScoopHost does custom Scoop programming as one of its services.
    • If you aren't sure where to look for a particular feature or piece of display, try the "Search Admin Tools" link in the admin tools menu.

    So He Likes Transparency?

    Laugh of the day.

    From Its Just Politics:

"Finally, just to make all of this a little more high school: both sides say Governor Rick Snyder told them he's on their side. But the Governor's spokeswoman responded that that's not quite true; says he likes transparency, but he also supports free speech."
Because speech is not free when its transparent?

Right.  Because transparency is a high priority in his world.

Oh, and as for Ruth in 2014?  They ask the question:

"Will Ruth Johnson pay a political price for her stance on disclosure? To seek reelection, she has to be nominated next year at a Republican convention. How will GOP delegates respond to this sort of renegade behavior?"
If ANY Republican elites even suggested such a move, She would be well served to take her momentum that much more forward and shoot for Guv, where Mr 36% is extremely vulnerable.

It would be a far better state for it.

    Ruth Johnson Is Right.

Here hoping that Michigan State Representatives don't forget it when it gets to them.

A recent in-box treat from the "Michigan Freedom Fund" declares a victory in the name of free speech.  The release says:

"LANSING, November 14, 2013 - Michigan Freedom Fund President Greg McNeilly today released the following statement after Senate Bill 661 passed 20-18 in the Senate:

    ...

"Government has no right to target and punish the free speech of individuals, whether or not it is unpopular or delivered through an unpopular medium.  Today, the Senate did the right thing by standing up for our rights and putting the Constitution first." "

But what was this good thing that was done?

Ruth Johnson apparently triggered a legislative action with a recent press release and intent on expanding reporting by shadow groups.

" LANSING, Mich. - Saying the public has a right to know who is behind some of the most negative advertising in political campaigning, Secretary of State Ruth Johnson today proposed a sweeping new disclosure rule.

"In a country where free speech is protected, these ads are part of the political landscape and we can't stop them - but when they try to influence an election, we can make sure the public knows who is paying for them," said Johnson, a long-time fighter for transparency in elections.

Specifically, Johnson's proposal targets political ads that try to persuade voters about the worthiness or unworthiness of a candidate or proposal without actually using the words "vote for" or "elect." They often encourage voters to contact a specific candidate, as in "call candidate Smith and tell her she shouldn't ignore senior citizens" or "go online to let candidate Jones know you care how he is wasting tax dollars."

Because of a loophole in Michigan law, those electioneering ads - which are carefully crafted to meet the letter of the law, but not the spirit of the law - do not currently require any campaign finance reporting. "

Transparency, we support frankly.  As usual, McNeilly is off the mark because he didn't tell the whole story.

    Go below the fold.

Just what this state needs.  A corrupt East coast liberal, lobbyist for Bernie Madoff, turned Joisey blowhard governor stinking up the Mitten.

Christie, who will become head of the Republican Governors Association this month, plans to campaign in states that he could need if he seeks the Republican presidential nomination in 2016. Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder has not formally announced he will seek re-election, but is widely expected to do so early next year.

Christie told The New York Times on Tuesday he would appear frequently next year in "places like Ohio and Michigan and Florida."

AYFKM?!?!  Thanks to Reince Priebus, the GOP remains dead to me.  The Libertarians are the dumbest of the lot, so much so, that even Uncle Squeaky couldn't save his "free the weed" following from voting Obama's stalking horse Anarcho-Lunacy.

I'll leave y'all with a quote from 2012's VP vetting that says it all about Christie - "He sounds like the biggest a$$hole in the world," Stevens griped to his partner, Russ Shriefer.

Indeed, Mr. Stevens... yannow, "Pufferfish" is Snyder's kinda peeps.

"we ought to be more transparent than we have to be"

How dumb.  Just disclose what you have now and move along.  L. Brooks Patterson doesn't hesitate to name those he shakes down and those buying influence in Oakland County, however, Rick Snyder is above that as if his donors are like Barry's college transcripts.

"I think if you don't release it, it looks like there's something suspicious," Patterson told The News. "We all talk about transparency and we either live it or not."
    ....

"It's easier to hit your supporters for a donation sometimes, than getting them to donate from their personal account," Patterson said of getting corporate donations made to the fund.

Snyder testified last week in a deposition in Detroit's bankruptcy case that he doesn't know who donates to the fund - an admission that's raised some eyebrows. "It's almost dereliction of duty if he didn't know who the donors were," Robinson said.

Rich Baird testified he didn't know either.  What a pack of lies.  So, what's a Nerd to do?  Naturally, Rick Snyder put's his crony on the public dole with a $40,000 pay raise.  Frilliant!

The alleged Party of principle, strikes again.

Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Ron Boji, of Orchard Lake, to the state Transportation Commission.

The six-member commission is the policy-making body for all state transportation programs.

"Ron has enjoyed a distinguished career and I look forward to his contributions to this important commission," Snyder said.

Hey, it's a Nerdy job but, somebody's got to do it...

Yippie!  Federal road monies for Ron to run his fingers through.

"...balance their budget based on what's actually in their checkbook not what they wish was there."

After replacing the MBT with a State Income Tax Hike, plundering retirees pensions, cutting the Homestead Tax Credit, electioneering with Democrats, continuing to gift illegal aliens over $900M annually, and passing Obamacare Snydercaid, the guy I see in the propaganda video above is the best argument presented for a Part-time State Legislature.

Go work on growing your second chin, Jase.  Like Snyder, you're the problem.
