    Welcome to Scoop!

To help you figure things out, there is a Scoop Admin Guide which can hopefully answer most of your questions.

    Some tips:

    • Most of the layout is changed in "Blocks", found in the admin tools menu
    • Features can be turned on and off, and configured, in "Site Controls" in the admin tools menu
    • Stories have an "edit" link right beside the "Full Story" link on an index page, and right beside the "Post a Comment" link on the full story page. They can also be edited by clicking the story title in the "Story List" admin tool
    • Boxes are what allow you to write new features for Scoop; they require a knowledge of the perl programming language to work with effectively, although you can often make small changes without knowing much perl. If you would like a feature added but cannot program it yourself, ScoopHost does custom Scoop programming as one of its services.
    • If you aren't sure where to look for a particular feature or piece of display, try the "Search Admin Tools" link in the admin tools menu.

    Itching Ears and Mad Prophets

My pastor, when he's discussing contemporary culture from either the sanctuary pulpit or the classroom lectern, likes to refer to what he calls, "itching ear disorder."  The primary Scripture reference is 2 Timothy 4:3-4, referring to a time when people will have no further interest in the truth, and won't tolerate listening to anything that contradicts their philosophical predispositions.  As a student of Scripture, I can say with some certainty that the prophets and apostles were well acquainted with this disorder.  Hosea even wrote about a time when hostility against the truth would become so great that those who insist on speaking it would be considered fools and maniacs.  According to a disputed George Orwell quote ("In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act.  The further a society drifts from truth, the more it will hate those that speak it."), "itching ear disorder" isn't exactly an unusual condition in the human experience.

And this brings us to the current philosophical skirmish involving Michigan's Republican National Committeeman, which involves the latest escalation by some unsavory elements within the Michigan Republican Party, who seem to be in a desperate quest to reclaim lost relevance.

Patterson Makes Obamacare Palatable, Screws Taxpayers

What an Executive wagon-circling doozy floated this morning in The News.

Across the nation, the fees and taxes imposed next year through the Affordable Care Act will generate about $20 billion, based on Joint Committee on Taxation estimates, and could affect nearly 60 percent of Americans who receive insurance through their workplace.

It's uncertain how many employees could pay the higher fees and taxes because employers are deciding whether to absorb the cost or pass along all or part of it. For example, Oakland County government decided to pick up the tab - more than $600,000 - for its workers. Macomb and Wayne county officials could not be reached about their plans.

    REST

As the old saying goes - No pain, No ga, well, in Brooksie's bureaucratic fiefdom... no pain!  Pay up, taxpayers suckers.

With Republicans like in Oakland County, Randy Richardville, Jase Bolger, and Snyder/Calley, who needs Lon Johnson and Julianna Smoot?

Do you remember what Oakland County's "king-maker" said when pushing through the DIA Tax?  I do.

Voters in Oakland County will decide this August on a property tax to support the Detroit Institute of the Arts. Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson is encouraging residents to support it.

"So the tax would have been 19 bucks on the average home sold last year. You know, that's a bad day at Starbucks," Patterson said to laughter from the audience [Sheeple] at Friday's Pancake & Politics panel discussion.

"I think the tax will fly.  I think people understand appreciate. And then when you get, if the tax passes ... the communities that pass it get free admission to the DIA, so you're gonna get it back your first trip. So, I think it's gonna pass overwhelmingly."

M'kay, so Babbling Brooksie got his way with herding the 7 Republican turncoats on the Oakland County Board of Commissioners who voted with the unanimous Democrats to send the DIA Tax Hike and Oakland County Art Institute Authority creation (see page 387) off to a vote by the Sheeple.    Yannow, it is written that the age-old axiom says, Even a fool is thought wise if he keeps silent, and discerning if he holds his tongue.  Congratulations, Oakland County, voters!  You have spoken!  By your vote, YOU OWN THE DIA TAX.

Oakland County officials plan to take their first step next week to safeguard property taxes meant for funding the Detroit Institute of Arts from getting in the hands of the city's creditors.

Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson said the resolution is a pre-emptive strike against Detroit and its creditors as the city prepares to fight to persuade bankruptcy Judge Steven Rhodes the city is eligible for Chapter 9 bankruptcy protection.

"That would be a tremendous betrayal of public trust. That's not what that tax was passed for," Patterson told The Detroit News on Tuesday. "We will take steps to suspend the tax levy. We're clearly within our rights, and we're going to exercise that."

    Read on.

Then what was the tax passed for, Brooksie?  A hint.  Would you like to know what would be a tremendous betrayal of public trust?  Still being led around by a hoary County politician who refuses to accept he has outlived his usefulness (tho, apparently now sober), and now wants his Obamacare-esque "do over" for his DIA Tax hike scheme with November 2014 elections approaching.

    Now pay up, suckers.

OABTW, next time, don't "forget" to wear your seat belts when riding with Brooksie and his Democrat friends.

My friend Denny, has an ongoing weekly selection of trophy winners.  Rightmichigan now has its first Officially declared trophy winner selection.  Unfortunately, in Michigan, it goes to someone allegedly on The Right who habitually demonstrates when a politician outlives his usefulness.

"I alienated some in the Jewish (community) when I called the speaker 'Adolf,' " Patterson wrote. "I was commenting on his leadership style. To those offended, I apologize."

Yes, let's steer the conversation as to "not offend" the Fiegers, and the Levins of Michigan, because you were, yet again, Above the Law.  Congratulations, Babbling Brooksie.  You are A$$hole Of The Week.

Ps. Brooksie, you're also reason #5,962.

    Democrat Crossover Scheme

Just in case you've forgotten, there is a special primary election taking place in the old 11th Congressional District about a week from now.  According to the Official Michigan Special Primary Candidate Listing, this is going to be a non-issue for the democrats, as David Curson is unopposed.  The republican side of that ballot, however, is the entire reason for next week's special election in the first place.  And that's just what the mischief-makers on both sides are probably counting on.

Good Grief: Now Patterson is Blowing Smoke with a Lottery Scheme

Half-baked L. Brooks Patterson just can't stop himself from placing his ham-handed electioneering fingers into any CD-11 event that should be decided by voters.

Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson is renewing his call for Republicans and Democrats to narrow their selection to one candidate to avoid the cost of a special primary election to fill the term of former U.S. Rep. Thaddeus McCotter.

Um, Brooks .. there is only one Democrat from Local 245 in the special election.  AND there was only one Republican that filed well in advance too, well, until the cabals write-in candidate and her endorsing former state legislator and current Livonia council president, undoubtedly squeezed that Livonia civics grapevine enlisting at least two other filers covering for write-in Nansee Crassis.

Patterson said Tuesday that both major political parties should hold a lottery to pick one Republican and one Democrat in order to avoid a special primary election Sept. 5.
    ....

"This is about fiscal responsibility," Patterson said in an early morning statement. "If there is only one candidate from each party running, there is no need to spend tens of thousands of taxpayer dollars on a special primary election.

"It's ridiculous to spend that amount of taxpayer dollars on a special primary election for just a couple weeks in office."

Fiscal responsibility?  Really?  Sorry bub, you tossed that meme out the window with pushing the DIA tax hike.

But, OK, Brooksie, have your handpicked crony, MBT author and Corporate welfare write-in candidate drop out first.

    Deal?

Nancy Cassis, The Silverdome, and Pontiac's EFM

You read that right.  After the signature gathering primary election fact, smear merchant write-in Nancy voted for expanding Crony Capitalism that continues to spell doom in Pontiac, and Corporate welfare in Detroit.  Her vote.  Sure, ringleader L. Brooks Patterson is able to appear as the mack daddy of SE Michigan, if, or the reality is, when Oakland County is able to keep them taxpayer subsidized, write-in Nancy approved pie plates spinning in the air.  All it takes is for folk like them, is to reach into Joe Taxpayer's pocket to do it, and now, L. Brooks Patterson is pushing the DIA tax hike too.

"Taxes go to projects that are worthy, whether we use them or not," Patterson said, noting that when he travels around the world to recruit business, he is always asked about schools, neighborhoods and cultural amenities. "The DIA is a huge opportunity for me to answer that question in a positive way. It's an economic development tool for me."

Or not?  Holy bejesus!  Why don't you have another cocktail, Brooksie?  You too, Nolan.

    Now, the truth below.

What a set-up to cover for Nansee. via The Detroit News

Former state Sen. Nancy Cassis said Friday she has filed enough petition signatures to get on the ballot for a special primary to fill the seat left vacant when U.S. Rep. Thaddeus McCotter resigned from Congress.

Cassis of Novi said she filed 2,000 signatures, twice the minimum needed to qualify for the election. Also filing Friday for the Republican nomination are Kenneth Crider, with 1,100 signatures, Steve King, with 1,200, and Carolyn Kavanagh, with 1,276. All three are from Livonia.

    Rest

The City of Livonia should be ashamed.  David Curson who?  Nice 'deal' with Brewer, Bobby.
