    L'Anse Creuse High School was evacuated Tuesday morning after an airman from the Selfridge Air National Guard Base went to the school, spooking staff by wearing his camouflage uniform military fatigues.

    Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham said the 21-year-old airman, a former student, was at the school at about 6 a.m. attempting to get a letter of recommendation.

    A member of the midnight-shift custodial staff spotted the man entering the school in his camouflage military fatigues, a flak jacket and a holster with no weapon in it.

    Memo to Citiots: in my parts of the state if a little camo, and at least talk of hunting, or firearms isn't the norm one is automatically deemed light in the loafers.

    What's even better is that they called it a flak jacket.

    Idiots don't even know the difference. It was either an IOTV or IBA.

    Flak vest != IOTV/IBA

    ...hefty helping of show leather this morning, aside from the fact he embarrassed the county yesterday.

    He provided a mediocre mea culpa to his statement that the airman made a poor decision on his choice of apparel (go to 6:15).

    I used to be somewhat concerned that the local schools were ran and staffed by a bunch of spineless weenies. This incident just bumped that up several notches.

    It rare, but not unheard of, to see active duty base personnel outside of Selfridge in uniform. I've ran into a few on Hall Rd. myself.

    But, I've yet to see someone wigging out at anyone wearing camouflage walking into the local Walmart.

    The staff should've known better!

    opened up his show for callers on this incident.  I was quite surprised by many of the callers.  Many of them agreed that the young airman used bad judgement in wearing his camo's into the school.  But my take is this.  While I appreciate this young man's service to country he probably is what Rush calls the un-informed zombies that roam our communities.  I would venture to guess that, while he heard about Sandy Hook, he did not engage or pay attention to the raging debate about school shootings and gun laws going on right now.  He is doing his duty, serving his country, listening to whatever group is popular right now, hanging out with friends and co-workers and does not pay attention to what is going on in the news around him.  Sad but very true - even for those that serve their country.  I will bet he was stunned when the police tracked him down to find out what he was doing at the school - that is how out of touch many walking amongst us are.  So that is my take on the "bad judgement call".  

    That said, I see soldiers everyday with their uniforms on and it does not phase me one bit.  Even if I was the janitor at that school - it would have never dawned on me that this young man was there to cause harm.  Correct me if I am wrong but the school shootings that have taken place did not highlight the killer wearing camo uniforms.

    . . . I just had to do my homework.  Apparently, "Michigander" was originally intended as a pejorative reference to Michigan politicians, specifically democrats (and Lewis Cass in particular), as a gaggle of simpletons.

    It fits well enough.
