someone realizing what they had done:
"A military man can scarcely pride himself on having 'smitten a sleeping enemy'; it is more a matter of shame, simply, for the one smitten. I would rather you made your appraisal after seeing what the enemy does, since it is certain that, angered and outraged, he will soon launch a determined counterattack."

    And then some.

Sometime between then and now, we seem to have lost something.

...running some errands I was saddened by the lack of flags lowered to half-staff today.

When I went into one business and asked the staff why they hadn't done so, they thought that they were breaking some law by just having a flag out in front.

No, I'm not making that part up.

The History Channel is going to take a break from garbage pickers, dumpster divers and the rest of what passes for "historical" programming in their channel's lineup in favor of a program on the "surprise" attack at 8:00 tonight.

I can't even get a link to the actual show on their own website, but The News did a fairly good write-up on it in today's paper.

Frank Backmann did an interview this morning with Prof. Gillon who also did tonight's show.

It's worth a listen if you get the chance.
