Who are the NERD fund donors Mr Snyder?

    Raise the curtain.

    Back to school for Brooks.

A lot of times politicians chime into current events as a way to deflect attention from certain issues.

We call it "Wag the Dog".

Bill Clinton did this to divert media attention away from Monica Lewinski coverage by bombing Sudan and Afghanistan. Pres. B.O. is doing this by sounding off about a Mosque to be built very near Ground Zero after the media began to report his economic "plan" is destroying what's left of our nation's economy, rather than helping it.

Some times, politicians chime in on issues for the opposite effect. They want to gain attention in the media that will (hopefully) cause everyone to "forget" their earlier foul-ups. Harry Reid's comment on the aforementioned Mosque is a perfect example.

Finally, some politicians chime in for no apparent reason at all. The end result makes people scratch their heads and wonder how they remained in office as long as they have.

This is another one of those stories.

    {Continued after the fold}.

For several months now, Michigan Open Carry has been going around to local cities promoting open carry laws here in Michigan. Last week, Michigan Open Carry protested the exclusion of firearms from a local event, "Arts, Beats & Eats" in Royal Oak. This week, the City of Royal Oak announced that they will be amending their contract allow people to openly carry at this event next month. Good for them.

But wait, what's that in the distance?

Why, it's the green flag, let the politicians begin!

Yesterday, the local paper was soliciting comments, and got this doozy from Oakland County Exec. L. Brooks Patterson regarding people openly carrying at AB&E, "There are commonsense restrictions, and we should delineate what those are."

I'm sorry, did I read that right?

    Let's go to the replay.

"There are commonsense restrictions, and we should delineate what those are."

    "Commonsense restrictions"?!?

    victim stance

    {Oakland County Exec personally demonstrating what to do when threatened.}

Now, I know that Brooks has been a little "off" lately when he recently supporting a tax that benefits very few people, most notably union members.

But to go after one of our rights?

I'm going to do something different here and not invoke the Second Amendment, even though it clearly is applicable here, but rather something a little more closer to home; The Michigan Constitution.

    Michigan Constitution, Article 1 § 6

Sec. 6. Every person has a right to keep and bear arms for the defense of himself and the
    state.

    One sentence.

    Very clear.

    Very straightforward.

Does anyone happen to see any "wiggle room" for "commonsense restrictions" listed above?

Does anyone see a hoplophobic republican exemption?

    I didn't either!

If the People's Republic of Royal Oak can read and understand the Michigan Constitution, yet Mr. Patterson cannot, this is saying a lot!

Sorry, Mr. Patterson. But you've just earned your demotion to RINO status.

If you wish to have your RINO status revoked, your homework assignment is to reread the Michigan Constitution, the US Constitution and Federalist Papers #28, #29 & #46, then give an interview to the local media explaining your previous error.

PA 319 of 1990 could be his "cliff notes"

       FIREARMS AND AMMUNITION (EXCERPT)
       Act 319 of 1990

123.1102 Regulation of pistols or other firearms.Sec. 2.

A local unit of government shall not impose special taxation on, enact or enforce any ordinance or regulation pertaining to, or regulate in any other manner the ownership, registration, purchase, sale, transfer, transportation, or possession of pistols or other firearms, ammunition for pistols or other firearms, or components of pistols or other firearms, except as otherwise provided by federal law or a law of this state.

    After this?

"If they want to carry guns so badly, they should join the Army and go over to Afghanistan. They have a lot of big guns over there."

Why that sounds exactly like every damned booger eatin' anti-Second Amendment Leftist assclown that I've ever argued with.

And, that sure as hell is a far cry away from him recommending that everyone "Buy an Uzi".  Then again, maybe Patterson is on the sauce again.

Either way... F#@%  L. Brooks.  As the years roll by, he's starting to sound sorta like a Michael Moore of Oakland County.

Patterson seems like he has very immature impulse control. That would eliminate his qualifying to hold office...anywhere..at anytime, even if he passed a test. IMO.

Appleseed Event. He'll learn a lot about state gun laws and history. He would learn some fundamentals of good citizenship.

    Michigan's Constitution (none / 0) (#7)
by DougDante on Wed Aug 18, 2010 at 06:13:07 PM EST
The wiggle room is simple.  It doesn't matter what Michigan's constitution says, because our constitution is quite often ignored.

For example, Article IV, Section 16:

"§ 16 Legislature; officers, rules of procedure, expulsion of members.

    "Sec. 16.

"Each house, except as otherwise provided in this constitution, shall choose its own officers and determine the rules of its proceedings, but shall not adopt any rule that will prevent a majority of the members elected thereto and serving therein from discharging a committee from the further consideration of any measure. ..."

But in 2008, a motion to discharge the House Judiciary Committee from sitting on the Parental Rights Joint Resolution, so that it could be sent on to the voters, was thwarted exactly in this manner, despite the vast majority of legislatures having cosigned the measure.

Brooks was never a friend of gun owners (none / 0) (#12)

I remember back in 2000 when his nickname was Dodge City Brooks because of STUPID comments he made about shall issue. He said the state would turn into Dodge City. Didn't happen.

    Some of us never forgot.
