much second guessing my support for rank and file.

That said - my great grandfather was a state trooper, my brother is DEA, my niece is a county sheriff, my cousin is a city police officer and the first babysitting job I ever had was for our neighbor who happened to be the chief of police.  I have "skin in the game" so to speak.  I have always had the utmost respect for the profession because I was taught that respect by my parents and because of the family history in law enforcement.

However, if rank and file were opposed to their leaders and the bullsh!t they are pulling on the public why don't they call them on the carpet for it.  The silence is deafening.  Law enforcement often speaks for and helps those who cannot help themselves.  Yet they are silent on this issue.  We pay top $$$ for protection and now they are going to side with protesters who break the law by defiling and trashing public property and legislators that run away from doing their jobs?  They might as well open up the prison doors and let the murderers and rapists have their way with us - all to apease their union bosses.  Sorry, I will not support any further taxes to pay for "protection" only if I am a progressive, liberal Democrat.

This letter and the threat against citizens has incensed me!  I find it troubling, disgusting and shameful.  And you can bet your hind end no one from the rank and file will step out and confront their leaders over this extortion.  They would have done it by now - the letter was sent last week and you can't tell me rank and file didn't know about it.

fill you in on an incident that is near and dear to my heart.

Last year a co-worker of my husband's broke into our home and stole pain killer's that my husband had from a surgery and money.  Not once, but several times.  We caught him by using our Skype camera.  The chief of police called the local newspaper and gave them the police report and file on the whole incident.  It was headlines in the newspaper the next day.  The "journalist" had our private phone numbers and repeatedly called us looking for a comment on the story.  In the mean time the guy who broke into our house was released from custody and we were truly afraid because of the publicity.  When has it become the job of the police department to provide "interesting" news stories to the local rag?

Our complaints to the police department were met with indignation.  Because we came up with the plan to catch him using Skype the police chief "thought" it was great human interest story.  He was not much concerned with our safety.  He actually hung up on me.  I was pissed to say the least.  The investigating detective was not even interested in our concerns either.

Law enforcement as we knew it growing up will never be again.  They are prostituting themselves for public support and "feel good stories" at the expense of public safety.  I don't feel very safe anymore and I can barely stand the sight of our local patrol cars that so "proudly" display "to serve and protect".

    Still not the rank-n-file, KG? (none / 0) (#13)

I'd say they're proving you wrong, and at a vehicle launch no less.  Just speaking as a former upper level GSR at Ford, these assclowns in their commie Red T-shirts should consider themselves lucky that FoMoCo's Econobox isn't being hammered out in Brazil, China or Mexico.  Then they have the audacity to b!tch about job security?  They're just plain out of touch, juvenile spoiled fuggin' brats.

As a consumer, I avoid anything they touch as much as possible.
