Cut EVERYONE Else But ME!! (none / 0) (#3)

Interesting.  So for those of us still in the work force who are actually subsidizing cushy retirements for today's seniors, we need to just keep shelling it out.  Never mind the fact that the same retirement options will NOT be there for most of us under the age of 55.  No, instead we must hope our ravaged and measly 401K's will eventually grow enough in value to allow us a meager retirement as well.  For most of us under 50, we know in our guts that Social Security will not be there for us and virtually none of us have a "pension" upon which to depend.

I find it very interesting to hear so called "conservatives" whine that they may actually have to share in the shared sacrifices required to fix this state.  The budget deficits are real, folks.  Snyder doesn't own a money printing press and he can't run deficits.  No longer can we afford accounting gimmicks to balance the budget.  Real cuts must be made and made in a responsible way.

I'm not 100% thrilled with Snyder's budget either.  Would I prefer scrapping the entire tax code and trading it in for a consumption tax or a flat tax?  Maybe.  Something truly dramatic might have been preferred.

But from what I can tell, the plan proposed does a lot to help small businesses in Michigan get up off the mat and begin to thrive and, thereby, create more jobs - which creates more taxpayers, which some day may allow us to pay for grandma's subsidized retirement once again.

Until then, we're broke!  That's not just a slogan.  It's very real.  So very real spending cuts are required along with closing tax loopholes.  Making Michigan's tax code flatter and easier with a focus on generating economic activity and growth must be accomplished if we're ever to get out of this mess.

We elected adults to get us out of this mess.  Now we need to grow up and start acting like adults ourselves.
