    1. I used quotation marks around the term Tea Party to indicate sarcasm. I am aware that it doesn't represent the views of the actual tea parties in Michigan.

    2. I do not buy the rule of law argument. In my opinion, the purpose of law is to protect the rights of citizens. In this situation, a law is being selectively applied to restrict the FTP's legal rights for the purpose of denying the Constitutional right to free speech. Furthermore, ruling against the FTP would create a precedent that would open the door to heavily over-regulating election law so as to effectively make the Board of Canvassers the sole authority over whether any new third party can be formed in the state of Michigan.

In my opinion, the law in question is one of many forms of over-regulation employed by our state government. And over-regulating anything, whether it be over-regulating gun ownership law or over-regulating election law, is a method to make it practically impossible to exercise our constitutional rights. And as such, the courts should not allow such laws to stand because they represent and unreasonable restriction on our ability to practice our constitutional rights.
