To help you figure things out, there is a Scoop Admin Guide which can hopefully answer most of your questions.

Some tips:

Most of the layout is changed in "Blocks", found in the admin tools menu
Features can be turned on and off, and configured, in "Site Controls" in the admin tools menu
Stories have an "edit" link right beside the "Full Story" link on an index page, and right beside the "Post a Comment" link on the full story page. They can also be edited by clicking the story title in the "Story List" admin tool
Boxes are what allow you to write new features for Scoop; they require a knowledge of the perl programming language to work with effectively, although you can often make small changes without knowing much perl. If you would like a feature added but cannot program it yourself, ScoopHost does custom Scoop programming as one of its services.
If you aren't sure where to look for a particular feature or piece of display, try the "Search Admin Tools" link in the admin tools menu.

Chicken Soup For The Soul: A Father's Amazing Love (and example #8,897,234 on why I'm pro-life)

Positive stories are chicken soup for the soul. So today, I want to keep a positive post on being pro-life, rather than delving into pointing out the evils on the pro-abortion side of our culture. I found this story via a YouTube video that touched me deeply. The YouTube caption has the story:

A son asked his father, "Dad, will you take part in a marathon with me?" The father who despite having a heart condition, said, "Yes".
They went on to complete the marathon together. Father and son went on to join other marathons, the father always saying, "Yes" to his son's request of going through the race together.
One day, the son asked his father, 'Dad, let us join the Ironman together; to which his father said, "Yes", too.
For those who don't know, Ironman is the toughest triathlon ever. The race consists of three endurance events of a 2.4 miles (3.86 kilometers) ocean swim followed by a 112 miles (180.2 kilometers) bike ride and ending with a 26.2 miles (42.195 kilometers) marathon along the coast of the Big Island.
Father and son went on to complete the race together.

Now, you might be thinking at this point: "dude, where's the pro-life in this story?" Where is the "is?" Well, here's the video that accompanies the story:
