I'm gonna have to start calling them the Litany Lyins.
A group of University of Michigan faculty members Monday stopped short of calling for an external review into a six-month lapse in university officials reporting the discovery of child pornography in a University Hospital employee area. (2 comments) Comments >> By Corinthian Scales, Section News
I'll be damned, Detroit's liberal fish wrap made me giggle today.
A group of Occupy U-M protesters took over Thursday's University of Michigan Board of Regents meeting seconds after President Mary Sue Coleman started it. Holy crap! Could it be the #OccuTurds are figgerin' things out? (4 comments, 531 words in story) Full Story By Corinthian Scales, Section News
$361/sq ft? I don't want to hear whining about tuition hikes ever again.
After receiving approval from the University of Michigan Board of Regents today, U-M is planning to purchase a .14-acre parcel near the Law Quad by the end of the month. Rest is here (3 comments) Comments >> By JGillman, Section News
Its worse than we thought.
Back a couple of months ago, we had a few discussions here about the pitiful sales of GM's Chevy Volt, even WITH the monster government incentive. A $7500 rebate just didn't cut it for target buyers of the electric boondoggle of Detroit's once upon a time premier automaker, and sales are worse than flat. The profits from said eco-box wouldn't pay for the engineering alone much less the tooling and employee cost. However, the employee cost has apparently brought a little fear to the dues collecting part of the team. So much so, that they have begun to market the volt to a new constituency that is more likely to be swayed by talking green frogs, giant yellow birds, and a fear of drowning polar bears. Our children. At our public schools. A little more below. (8 comments, 579 words in story) Full Story By JGillman, Section News
We have students unionizing at U of M.
The University of Michigan's Mary Sue Coleman now reaps the sowing, as the regents' meeting at a Dearborn locale brought about the now possible unionization of graduate student researchers. Coleman opposed the move, yet the regents voted to allow it with a 6-2 vote.
As the infestation of labor expands into the student part of a government subsidized and over fed organization like the University of Michigan, it should be noted that the two dissenting votes were the only voices of reason available. A release last night from the Republican party of Michigan reads: LANSING - Michigan Republican Party Chairman Bobby Schostak praised Republican-nominated University of Michigan Regents Andrea Fischer Newman and Andrew C. Richner today for their recent votes opposing a resolution to allow the school's graduate researchers to unionize. That third paragraph is the ringer. This was not on the agenda for the May 19, 2011 meeting in Dearborn. Classic progressives and their tactics. Wonderful. A little more below. What might you think is a main underlying reason for racism? Why would someone have a problem with another person who has skin of a different shade or color?
I would argue its not the color of skin, but what people have been taught to believe are commonalities within people who share the skin color. Stereotypes that are taught from an early age, and persist until "unlearned" through social interaction. The sharing of tasks, duties, and similar life experiences are crucial as a demonstration that the difference in skin color is simply THAT.. A difference in skin color. So why do we still see attempts to encourage thinking otherwise? Its happening here in Michigan, and its apparently quite blatant.
