  • Your New Scoop Site

    Welcome to Scoop!

To help you figure things out, there is a Scoop Admin Guide which can hopefully answer most of your questions.

    Some tips:

    • Most of the layout is changed in "Blocks", found in the admin tools menu
    • Features can be turned on and off, and configured, in "Site Controls" in the admin tools menu
    • Stories have an "edit" link right beside the "Full Story" link on an index page, and right beside the "Post a Comment" link on the full story page. They can also be edited by clicking the story title in the "Story List" admin tool
    • Boxes are what allow you to write new features for Scoop; they require a knowledge of the perl programming language to work with effectively, although you can often make small changes without knowing much perl. If you would like a feature added but cannot program it yourself, ScoopHost does custom Scoop programming as one of its services.
    • If you aren't sure where to look for a particular feature or piece of display, try the "Search Admin Tools" link in the admin tools menu.

    If we can.

We are starting to see those effects of Obamacare.

Remember when the discussion on healthcare brought out Obama's callous remark about what to do with ailing seniors? When asked:

"Under Obamacare, will an elderly person's general state of health, and her "spirit," be taken into account when making medical decisions - or will these decisions be made according to age only?"

President Obama answered. "It is really not feasible, to take "spirit" into account. We are going to make medical decisions based on objective evidence, and not subjective impressions. If the evidence shows that some form of treatment "is not necessarily going to improve care, then at least we can let the doctors know that - you know what? - maybe this isn't going to help; maybe you're better off not having the surgery, but taking the pain pill."

Right.  Never mind the will of the patient, desire to live, spirit, human decency and all that.  In fact it was this exchange which initiated the Former governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin and others to begin using the term "death panels"

The guy is stone cold .. cold.

And our seniors are going to be facing a great deal more of this president's "youthful zeal" toward exterminating what is seen as a costly element of society. Particularly when health care rationing becomes necessary.  So instead of procedure, maybe its a pill for you granny.

And you may be thankful to get that.

    Its time I weigh in.

Not that my opinion is any more valid than those of you who have posted on this already.  In fact I have carefully considered the arguments, and added in the known variables along with best guesses and personal experience.  I rely on your observations as much as my own, however this is one of those times I must respectfully disagree with some of you on the negative impact of the state's new tax policy.

Last night I was lucky enough to attend the Leelanau County Republican party Lincoln dinner with my wife and a great number of friends. Some of those friends are either retired and/or retiring soon, and have a reason to be concerned about higher taxes, the loss of exemptions, and changing tax policy that may directly affect them.  There was no shortage of Republicans present, and many of those were folks one would find in 912 groups, Tea Parties, and other constitution interested organizations.

I believe the Leelanau county chair suggested the numbers involved in the county party were even more than last year.  And last year we had great success in moving the bar back toward conservative government structure with landslide elections both statewide and nationally.

The reason I mention this, is to establish that this group, even while containing a number of "old guard" party types, it was hardly a pushover crowd.  While being a social affair, there is/was still an undeniable no-going-back attitude, and frankly there were enough who had a concern as do many in this forum, that this was not the way to start off.

For the most part, I too could be counted as one who was also troubled about extending tax levels, and elimination of particular exemptions.  My understanding of the MBT going away and the Corporate tax replacement was not yet complete.
