  • Your New Scoop Site

    Welcome to Scoop!

To help you figure things out, there is a Scoop Admin Guide which can hopefully answer most of your questions.

    Some tips:

    • Most of the layout is changed in "Blocks", found in the admin tools menu
    • Features can be turned on and off, and configured, in "Site Controls" in the admin tools menu
    • Stories have an "edit" link right beside the "Full Story" link on an index page, and right beside the "Post a Comment" link on the full story page. They can also be edited by clicking the story title in the "Story List" admin tool
    • Boxes are what allow you to write new features for Scoop; they require a knowledge of the perl programming language to work with effectively, although you can often make small changes without knowing much perl. If you would like a feature added but cannot program it yourself, ScoopHost does custom Scoop programming as one of its services.
    • If you aren't sure where to look for a particular feature or piece of display, try the "Search Admin Tools" link in the admin tools menu.

Stay with me here...I just got back from the AFP conferences in Orlando...After just one day there, my mental peripheral vision kept telling me something was definitely amiss...I hate these `mental tropical storms', and by Saturday; day two; I had it nailed down...Orlando IS Disney's "Magic Kingdom" in practice...

    First Amendment Victory in Michigan!

After three plus hours of testimony and the agony of  parsing definitions, Mr. Vern Verduin of Gaines Township wins the right of Free Speech!

A definitive victory over out of control government.

Mr. Verduin parked two semi-truck trailers on his 40 acre farm that violated the 20 square feet allowed for political signs.  His signs stated:  Marxism/Socialism = Poverty and Hunger and Obama's 'Mission Accomplished' :  8% Unemployment 16 Trillion Debt.

If the signs advertised his business, the signs could have been twice as big. He was fined for violating the township ordinance after declaring his right to free speech by leaving the signs up.

Gaines Township cited Mr. Verduin in an attempt to force him into compliance.  After deliberating permanent vs temporary,  content based vs content neutral, and debating the definition of vehicular signs, Judge Steven Servaas, 63rd District Court Kent County, declared Gaines Township's sign ordinance unconstitutional "because there is a distinction between commercial and political".  The Judge added that the law has to treat commercial and political speech the same.  The Township's ordinance allows a bigger sign to sell a product than a political idea.

Constitutionally, this ordinance is upside down.

Billdo53 Comments On Our Smoking Ban

It's comical to me that the comments in the local Pravda are of more value that what's written by the salaried fish wrap scribes itself.  From Billdo53.

I now like the ban.. it's saved me hundreds of dollars... I just don't go to bars anymore... fixed up my "Man Cave" and have 2, 3, or 4 people over several days a week to watch the Tigers, NBA Playoffs, Stanley Cup Finals, and Golf... not all of us smoke, but we all enjoy the .75 per bottle of Labatt Blue... can also burn a fatty while we're at it... I figure in the last year, I have saved about $2,500 from not going to the bar and having some beers and playing Keno...

Welcome aboard, my brother.  I've been saying the same thing for almost a year now.
