  • Your New Scoop Site

    Welcome to Scoop!

To help you figure things out, there is a Scoop Admin Guide which can hopefully answer most of your questions.

    Some tips:

    • Most of the layout is changed in "Blocks", found in the admin tools menu
    • Features can be turned on and off, and configured, in "Site Controls" in the admin tools menu
    • Stories have an "edit" link right beside the "Full Story" link on an index page, and right beside the "Post a Comment" link on the full story page. They can also be edited by clicking the story title in the "Story List" admin tool
    • Boxes are what allow you to write new features for Scoop; they require a knowledge of the perl programming language to work with effectively, although you can often make small changes without knowing much perl. If you would like a feature added but cannot program it yourself, ScoopHost does custom Scoop programming as one of its services.
    • If you aren't sure where to look for a particular feature or piece of display, try the "Search Admin Tools" link in the admin tools menu.

    Just Plain Fun

I never thought I would enjoy getting booed.

I mean maybe not actually enjoy the loud BOOOOOOO given by 75-100 demonstrators with hate filled resolve, but still feel .. umm I'm not sure.  Its just plain strange, but there was a thrill, perhaps even a weird exhilaration that these people took special notice as I walked through taking their pictures with my cell phone going into the governor's breakfast.  It was like they secretly LOVED [to hate] me.

Perhaps it was the realization that this is all they have.  The signs being carried to object to Snyder's budget, or EFM law or what have you, completely forgotten as the entire cadre of hard core lefties in the Grand Traverse region (from several counties I believe) turned to give me their full attention.  I realized the enjoyment of course as I burst out laughing at them, which made it louder.

Most of these folks were not the typical lefties mind you, they were the area's seasoned veterans who aren't afraid to block a sidewalk, lean on people's private vehicles, and generally prove that the maturity of the hyper liberal mind can be questionable.  As I have said before, I have Democrat friends.  And I know of a few who have even supported my efforts.  These folks in front of the venue holding the yearly affair, were the elite.

It was such a great crowd that I had to join them for a minute. So ... a friend had a camera, and the picture is below the line ...

    The state fact sheet.

H/T to Mr. Shostak of the Michigan Republican Party for the link to this.

Michigan has a fact sheet which relates to the EFM legislation. The sheet is a little vague with regard to the actual abilities of the EFM, but hits key points directly:

Despite the misinformation being spread by the media and on the Internet, the legislation does not give the governor the ability to remove elected officials at will. Claims that it does are simply not true.
    • The legislation includes a series of triggers, one of which must occur before a review of a local unit's finances is even conducted, such as failure by the local unit of government to pay creditors or make timely pension contributions.
    • Even if an emergency manager is put in place, local elected officials can only be removed from office if they refuse to provide information or assistance.
    • The governor already has - and has had - the ability to put an emergency financial manager in place since 1988.
    • The governor already has - and has had - the ability to remove elected officials for failing to do their duty or for corruption. This power was established in Michigan's 1963 constitution.

Worth a look, and a later follow up.  One particular quote worthy of note:

"Bankruptcy is a much bigger threat to collective bargaining."
    Indeed.

A Message To Our Legislators - Beware False Choices

    Interesting Bedfellows

    I could have predicted this.

The very thing some of you have spoken to, is being used by the lefties in Lansing (the protesters) as an accompanying argument for the EFM legislation.

The last gasp of government labor organizations is being seen occupying the state capitol chanting the programmed union slogans, and carrying the pre-printed paraphernalia supporting a free lunch, or compulsory unionization causes.  Loud and impolite as always, they recognize that their small issue though enough to rally them forward, is not sufficient for the needed sympathy from Michigan voters.

So they are going to play the "Snyder is taxing old people" angles.

And it may serve them well.
