  • Your New Scoop Site

    Welcome to Scoop!

To help you figure things out, there is a Scoop Admin Guide which can hopefully answer most of your questions.

    Some tips:

    • Most of the layout is changed in "Blocks", found in the admin tools menu
    • Features can be turned on and off, and configured, in "Site Controls" in the admin tools menu
    • Stories have an "edit" link right beside the "Full Story" link on an index page, and right beside the "Post a Comment" link on the full story page. They can also be edited by clicking the story title in the "Story List" admin tool
    • Boxes are what allow you to write new features for Scoop; they require a knowledge of the perl programming language to work with effectively, although you can often make small changes without knowing much perl. If you would like a feature added but cannot program it yourself, ScoopHost does custom Scoop programming as one of its services.
    • If you aren't sure where to look for a particular feature or piece of display, try the "Search Admin Tools" link in the admin tools menu.

    About That ..

First of all, people can want to their hearts desire.

There are certain truisms however.  Diamonds are sparkly, fish swim in the sea, electricity allows us to interact in this way, and "Marriage," is between a man and a woman.

Call it what you want, "pairing," "Coupling," "Partnering," etc.. but its not marriage unless its between a man and a woman. And to be clear, it is NOT a civil right.

On the old blog, Kevin Heine posted a great article on a recent manufactured issue within the Michigan Republican Party.  At the end of it he posted a video that is well worth the watch.

    Yeah.

The Great Disconnect - or SOPA on a ROPA

What a great way to shut us up.

On the right side of this article is a picture that has a copyrighted character used in a manner that is consistent with "fair use" as it neither conflicts with the original intent or marketing aspect of the creator, and that it is being used to characterize a particular political expression; my own.  It also does not represent any significant value to myself or the owner of this website.  It is generally recognized as an acceptable use in the eyes of the law under the framework of commentary, satire, or criticism.

But if the author asked us to remove it we would.

If the author had reason to believe our representation in this way harmed his ability to use his creation for self benefit, he might deem it necessary to ask us to either pay for the right to use it, render it unrecognizable, or remove it entirely.  We believe in the sanctity of copyright, and ownership, and private property. You know, the concept of "what one creates, he owns?"

Its one of those pesky rights that government often tries to usurp.

In fact, while holding up a banner as protectors of such material rights, there are agents of censorship at work attempting to limit our ability to express ourselves.  Blogs such as RightMichigan.com which have broken news stories, offered conservative (or liberal) opinions, and challenged preconceptions, are in danger of becoming the victims of a horribly applied copyright law.  Further, the extent to which we can be punished comes not as a simple command to remove violations by court order, but through another somewhat executive process that violates constitutional principles and directly with the 1st and the 6th amendments as well.

The use of copyright infringement is now threatening to be used as virtual duct tape tying our fingers, and wrapping our skulls to silence our voices in our opinions and political affairs.

A Message To Our Legislators - Beware False Choices

    Better Choices?

Governor Snyder has had an opportunity to join with 26 other states in repudiating the destruction of our health care by the liar in chief and a capitulating congress.

But he has done nothing of the sort.

And while our attorney general Bill Schuette is supposedly fighting against Obamacare as unconstitutional, we have a Snyder enabler Jim Marleau pushing for the finishing touches on the insurance exchanges.

The bottom line is that Obamacare requires every citizen to purchase government approved health insurance under penalty of law, beginning in 2014. Key to enforcing the "Individual Mandates," are federally-regulated health insurance exchanges, which will be set up in each state to facilitate the sale of this mandated insurance.

The law gives states the option to set up an exchange or have the federal government do it for them. Some states (and Legislators) mistakenly believe that if they set up an exchange, they will preserve state control over the exchange. However, Washington bureaucrats will be at the controls regardless of whether the exchange is state or federally established.

Have REPUBLICAN State Senator Jim Marleau tell the feds to take their crappy mandate and shove it where the prostate test goes.
