  • Your New Scoop Site

    Welcome to Scoop!

To help you figure things out, there is a Scoop Admin Guide which can hopefully answer most of your questions.

    Some tips:

    • Most of the layout is changed in "Blocks", found in the admin tools menu
    • Features can be turned on and off, and configured, in "Site Controls" in the admin tools menu
    • Stories have an "edit" link right beside the "Full Story" link on an index page, and right beside the "Post a Comment" link on the full story page. They can also be edited by clicking the story title in the "Story List" admin tool
    • Boxes are what allow you to write new features for Scoop; they require a knowledge of the perl programming language to work with effectively, although you can often make small changes without knowing much perl. If you would like a feature added but cannot program it yourself, ScoopHost does custom Scoop programming as one of its services.
    • If you aren't sure where to look for a particular feature or piece of display, try the "Search Admin Tools" link in the admin tools menu.

    Going Galt

I support capitalism. It provides something for something. Its what makes legitimate business truly tick. It provides solutions that no amount of coercion can.  It is the milk of prosperity.

So I am taking the night off, switching the business line to mute, and withholding my skills from the nation for a couple of hours.  I am going to see Atlas Shrugged tonight. In fact, a group of us are going to see if the story was done justice, and if the movie is perhaps a better production than presented by the lefty reviewers who panned it.

    They gave it 1 star.

The attempt to take on progressives in their own medium is delicious enough to make it worth the $10 ticket.  The fact that the local theater decided to carry the film will earn them at least a bucket of overpriced popcorn sale. If it is good enough, I may even buy the John Galt bobblehead when it comes out in stores everywhere or at McDonalds along with the HamLooter. (Burglar) fanny pack.

Oh my, good conservatives, I/we have been forewarned.

Michigan Business Done Right - Reagan Shrugged

    Who is Jason Gillman?

That strange question, which from time to serves as an answer to a myriad of other questions that serve to discover otherwise unexplainable truths. It is the real world variation of a similar question "who is John Galt?," asked early and often in the book Atlas Shrugged, by Ayn Rand.  Galt, an inventor, innovator, and objectivist, withdrew his talent from the country as he saw it usurped, taken for granted, and used inappropriately by those with an entitlement mentality.

Galt's acts in the story served as an iconic statement of the direction we as a nation are heading. And though John Galt was a fictional character, the very lessons to be learned in the story which features him among others, is valid in Michigan and in other states as well. Lessons which speak to the desire to create, and the many ways in which that can be quelled by government complicating the process.  Lessons about "greed," and how for some, that master,  is the driver to steal from the very creators who would otherwise use it (greed) as a tool to build wealth for themselves and for all.
