SB 414, 415, and 981 fast-tracked out of Health Policy Committee yesterday.
If folks do not approve of this new health insurance mandate that will hike their insurance premiums, I would strongly suggest they contact their Senators NOW. Remember, the majority of House Republicans rejected the autism coverage mandate in 2009, here and here. Andy Dillon and House Democrats actually passed those bills. Senate Majority Leader Mike Bishop let this unnecessary legislation die in the December 2010 lame duck session without vote. Perhaps those actions are just reflective of when Republican Legislators were attuned to the TEA movement that gave them the control of every lever of power in Lansing they now enjoy? Nothing else can reasonably explain what today's Majority is doing with associating the Republican name to this. Expect a vote as early as this coming week.
Introduced by Sen. Randy Richardville (R) on February 23, 2012, to authorize state subsidies to health insurance companies to compensate for the new coverage mandate proposed by Senate Bills 414 and 415, which would require them to include autism coverage in all their policies. The bill does not specify where the money would come from. Continued below. (1 comment, 414 words in story) Full Story By KG One, Section News
Elected office is a public trust.
The best definition I have found to described this, is as follows:
"When taking the oath of office, elected officials assume a solemn duty as stewards of public resources. The public must trust that its government will spend taxpayer dollars in a way that is responsible, efficient and, above all, open to the light of day. Some unfortunate events in recent years have eroded this public trust." The latest example of violating this trust happened in Michigan just last week.

I occasionally have a hangnail problem.
The problem with typing till your hands bleed, is that too much air whirls around and dries the skin. The skin around the nails pulls away, and pretty soon by golly, I have discomfort. I imagine I could get some medication to maintain a perfect skin tone, but its awful expensive. So I was thinking of creating a 'RightMichigan Tax'. You know, so you guys can pay for my hangnails. It will only add a little bit to the cost of your presence here. In fact lets just do it THIS way.. Why don't I simply get a mandate from the state, that the 'rent for hangnails is too damned high!' They cost too much to keep and my insurer should be forced to carry that policy coverage because of my burden. Isn't that what Calley wants? More below.. People were a little taken aback a few weeks ago when Gov-elect Snyder announced that he was tapping outgoing Speaker Andy Dillon to be the State Treasurer. Why, after the fine, outstanding job that he did working to balance Michigan's Budget (Tax hike? What tax hike?), <sarcasm> he would be the obvious choice to lead Michigan out of the $1.6-billion hole it finds itself in </sarcasm> . Then the Number 2 guy in the governor's office opens up his mouth. {Story continues below the fold} (43 comments, 247 words in story) Full Story |
