The Michigan GOP Corruption Casualties - Day 9By JGillman, Section News
The corruption of the Michigan GOP by Saul Anuzis, Bobby Schostak, Sharon Wise, and Bill Runco demonstrate there is still so much to do by Michigan Republicans.
How can we stand as a party with true principles, if the pursuit of power overrides common sense and appropriate management of our affairs? How can the desire for a single candidate be allowed to flavor the rules after the fact, to advance that candidate? How can a party that continually keeps trying to call itself "Big Tent" work so diligently to drive away the conservatives, grass roots, and TRUE Republicans, expect to survive such an important time in the history of this country? Maybe its because those at the top don't want survival. That is one of the conclusions one must arrive at if the facts are examined with a critical eye. An unacceptable acknowledgement of blame for a presumed misunderstanding of the rules is all the proof the MiGOP is willing to offer to a now despondent base that everything will be OK if we all just coalesce around the chair, and spurn the idea that crooked dealings have been happening. "If we pull together, then we can beat Obama in Michigan!", being the theme. The Ends justify the means. Just ignore the fact we become that which we fight in the process; Dirty dealing, backroom brokering, power seeking corruptocrats who could really care less about the rule of law or what is decent and just.
We become typical Michigan Leftist Democrats.
The dark side of the delegate affair has started to take its toll.
As reported by The Michigan Tea Party News, Alpena county Republican chair Tanya Hill resigned as a result of Schostak and company's willingness to adopt the playbook of the hard left: Members of the Alpena Republican Party, And she posted the link to one of our reports. Her story is one that will likely be repeated on a number of levels. Folks just don't want to be associated with crooks. Its hard enough for some to explain to the doctrinaire liberals why conservative/Republican principles would better the lives for all, but when shady and underhanded politics seem to be the norm within a political environment it becomes near impossible. Integrity is so hard to find when certain individuals refuse to be above board in their dealings with the votes of those who placed them in positions of power. How could anyone outside our ideological circles trust Republican policies if we demonstrate that we cannot even follow our own rules? Given the Latin origins of "Republica", how can the very word from which the party derives its name be used to describe an environment where the affairs that are handled are behind closed doors? Tanya's departure is unfortunate on a number of levels. We now have one less person with integrity to fend off the scoundrels who put personal political gain over principle. We have that much less moral authority in that region, as a voice for what is right cannot overcome the cacophony of corruption and lies from party leadership. And the art of prevarication is unfortunately not restricted to just those at the top. During a local GT county GOP executive meeting, Tanya's departure for the reasons stated, was mentioned. I had brought it before the board because it is unacceptable to have this type of activity by Republicans. It is unacceptable to be the party of "rule of law," and have leaders of the party change rules to fit their agendas. I mentioned her resignation because I wanted those in the room to understand that such action comes at a cost. Afterward, one of the committee members mentioned that Jessie Osmer, who is now acting chair of the Alpena GOP said I was wrong. He said the DeleGATE scandal was not the reason, but that it was (paraphrased)"that fact she could not be effective as she wanted" or something in a similar vein. Jesse was so busy circling the wagons he failed to notice the horses were still on the outside.
Tanya tells us: "Jesse Osmer...he was my vice chair. He was chair before me, now replacing me. I could never talk to him about any problems I had with the party. Jesse has very strong loyalty to the party and would only try to convince me that there was no wrongdoing. The party line right now is "we don't know for sure what happened, we only know that 6 honorable people voted". I didn't want to hear it from the guy who started the Alpena Tea Party ..." 6 honorable people voted. We don't know what happened. There is no wrongdoing. Said by someone who has openly misrepresented Tanya's motives to protect the rear ends of a few folks who don't even know he exists. Sad.
Tanya, who is very clear about why she has now left the party, followed up with this: "I did resign because of state leadership. I have always believed that Republicans wanted fair elections free of fraud. First of all, much of the party leadership and some state level officials are working for a candidate during the primary. Maybe I don't understand everything about the process, but I think it is unfair for elected officials to work for 1 candidate when we have 4 in the race. It seems that this is a regular practice but I think that makes for an unfair battleground. Then, even though the party is aligned behind Romney, it's a tight race...then a rule change. I know they say it is not a change, it is a clarification due to Bobby Schostak "misspeaking". Why then did the two attorneys on the rules committee vote no? It seems to me that they are the only people on the committee who are legitimately qualified to interpret what the rules say...aside from the fact that it clearly says that any candidate who receives more than 15% of the vote will share at large delegates. The party is trying to sweep it all under the rug and act as though nothing has happened. The whole system seems to work however the party wants it to work in a given situation...we are supposed to be a nation of laws not of men. Much of our local party is 100% behind Romney. I feel betrayed by the GOP in general and think I can better fight the fight from outside of it. I do feel like members of the party have tried to keep me from voicing my opinion. I wouldn't necessarily say they drove me out...I left before they could. And along with Tanya, goes the bigger picture of importance. Trust in the people we elect. Republicans who support Schostak, Anuzis, et al. in all of this do not deserve the efforts good activists like Tanya Hill bring. And as we go into the toughest campaign season anyone alive has ever seen, all the gains seen in 2010 will likely be tossed aside for the vanity of the old guard. Tanya Hill is not the first in her abandonment of Republicans due to shady backroom politics, and sadly, she won't be the last.
Tomorrow, the newest yet oldest memo appears from the RNC.
