Speaker John Boehner and Co. to Rep. Justin Amash: SPIN ON IT!By KG One, Section News
It is a story that has fallen through the cracks with the coverage of Freedom to Work recently passed here in Michigan and the so-called "fiscal cliff" (which really isn't as much of as issue as the republican kakistocracy would like you to believe it is...provided they remember they still control the House and grow a spine). Don't dig any deeper. This is what is taking up most of the 22-minutes of air time the MSM wants you to pay attention to each day.
Well that, and Lindsay Lohan's most recent troubles with the law. Got to stay focused on the paparazzi.
Actually, this one is a little more disconcerting.
As I'm sure that most of you are aware of, after the wash, rinse and repeat cycle of every election, committee assignments and chairmanships are awarded by TPTB in Washington.
It would stand to reason, that experience should matter, along with consistently adhering to one's own values, since republican principles frequently change direction as often as the wind does. More importantly, those values can serve as a template of the current principles that republicans purportedly stand for. But not this time. In a blatant "pay-no-attention-to-the-man-behind-the-curtain" moment, Speaker John Boehner, in-between his ongoing bromance with Pres. B.O. and which taxes he'll raise before (or most likely soon after sequestration kicks in), de-assigned three Conservatives from Committees during the next session of Congress. The end result meant Congressmen Justin Amash, Tim Huelskamp and David Schweikert were unceremoniously booted off of their respective committees. Rep Amash from the Budget Committee, Rep. Schweikert from the Financial Services Committee and Rep. Huelskamp on the House Agriculture and Budget Committees. Committees, I may add, that are in dire need of fiscal conservatives serving on them. Then the talk began.
Rumors began to circulate that these Congressmen were hastily and callously given the boot because they had failed the universal, red-blooded, true conservative scorecard. Waitaminit! Can't let this story get any legs. Better call in the spin machine! In a futile attempt to divert attention from his shenanigans, Speaker Boehner fired off a letter to the three Congressmen explaining that the Republican Steering Committee as a whole, through apparently with no documented record of why a decision had been made, made the determination to strip them of their committeeships. And in an interesting mea culpa, stated that there were ,"no scorecard or any other single criteria used to determine committee assignments." Wrapping things up, he concluded, "If you would like further explanation of why the Steering Committee made the decisions or how to be appointed to committees in the future, I encourage you to meet with Steering Committee Members individually." A copy of Speaker Boehner's letter can be found here. You have a staffer write a letter, but not bother to include any real hard facts in it? This is about as believable as any of Pres. B.O.'s budgets. Reading between the lines of the well-honed bureaucratic double-speak, Speaker Boehner doesn't actually deny that such a scorecard actually exists. Rep. Amash is well aware of that subterfuge, and caught it as well. In a response to Speaker Boehner, Rep Amash wrote back: "The Speaker did not dispute the existence of a scorecard and he did not deny that it was used to justify the Representatives' removals. "I recently was told that I received a `0' on the Republican leadership's scorecard. Given my work with Democrats and Republicans on serious proposals to balance the budget, it is certain that the scorecard awarded points for supporting bigger deficits and more debt. "Americans deserve to know the priorities of the current House leadership team. As fellow House Republicans, we deserve to know how we're being judged when we vote. "I'm proud of my fight for a balanced budget. Our leaders should be proud of the positions they take. "Mr. Speaker, show us the scorecard." Amen, on that Rep. Amash? Will Michigan's other republicans take a stand (cough, cough, Rep. Miller, Rep. Rogers, Rep. Benishek, Rep. Huizenga, Rep. Camp, Rep. Upton or even Rep. Walberg)? Or will they sit petrified on the sidelines, afraid of losing any of cushy assignments they currently hold? Personally, I wouldn't hold my breath. Maybe, they can prove me wrong? I hate being as right as often as I am about that lot.
