Mr. Schostak, Please Walk Away From Pete TARPstra

Hoekstra is going to be to Stabenow what Romney will be to Obama.

Michigan Democratic Sen. Debbie Stabenow's lead over one of her leading Republican challengers has widened over the past six months, but her approval ratings have slipped further under water.

The two-term incumbent now leads former Rep. Pete Hoekstra by nine points, 47 percent to 38 percent, according to a survey conducted by the Lansing-based firm EPIC-MRA. In February, months before Hoekstra announced his candidacy, Stabenow held a narrow two-point lead.

The senator has solid support from her Democratic base, with 85 percent backing her, and she holds an 18-point lead among independent voters. Hoekstra, who lost his party's nomination for governor last year, attracts 79 percent support from his base.

The majority of respondents -- 54 percent -- say Michigan's economy is headed in the wrong direction. However, no matter how voters view the economy, they favor Stabenow over Hoekstra. Among those who say the economy is getting better, she leads by 49 percent to 37 percent; among those who say it's not getting better, she leads by a slightly larger margin, 50 percent to 38 percent; and among those who think it will get worse, she still leads, 43 percent to 38 percent.

...Mr. Schostak and the rest of the republican establishment are secretly all democrats based upon their unwavering support of candidates who do not resonate well with the grassroots.

Let me repeat this again very clearly so there's no misunderstanding: The republican "leadership" wants democrats to remain in power.

The last few seconds of the above clip should be Exhibit "a" on why he should've been left lobbying.

Don't want to believe the video? Then ask Bouchard or George. They were there, and visible in the same video (Cox was supposed to be there during that part of the Q&A, but his people apparently didn't own a watch or roadmap before that meeting).

I don't know if it's the "Well, they are my best drinking/golfing/going to the nudey bar buds"-mindset, but that won't get people to gather signatures (without paying them), knocking on doors, distributing signs and passing out literature on election day.

If they keep pushing for Hoekstra as they have been, you will have six more years of Stabenow.

. . . and temporarily setting the TARP issue aside, I had an opportunity to speak with Mr. Hoekstra at a Kent GOP event on Thursday night about two other issues that have been bugging me considerably of late.

Mr. Hoekstra readily made his positions clear that he absolutely opposes the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact and that he absolutely supports efforts to repeal the 17th Amendment.

Just so those are out in the open.
