Well, that's quite a résumé you've got there.By KG One, Section News
Please sit down.
Well, we've been looking at your record to date. You've appeared to have compiled an extensive resume, but there are a few questions that we'd like to ask you before we proceed. Do you have a few minutes?
Fine. Then let's continue...
When you first ran for office, I see that you ran under the promise that you wouldn't serve for more than 12 years. However, your record shows that you actually were in office for 18 years, and even then, you had only left office to pursue a run for Michigan Governor.
Um-hmm. So because of unforeseen circumstances happening, you felt you were allowed to break your own word. Okay, then how about you record on fiscal responsibility? We'd like to know about a vote that you made supporting an almost $400-million bridge in Alaska that would not only serve a community of just barely 50 people, but would compete with a government-operated ferry service currently serving them as well. Um-hmm. Um-hmm. Bringing money back to Michigan is certainly a worthwhile goal, but I'm troubled by the fact that you failed to take the time to read the entire bill. Another question we have is still relating to fiscal responsibility. You've supported the Bush Administration's Troubled Asset Relief Program. Why? Um-hmm, information available at the time. And how would you contrast that with your position on fiscal responsibility? No, I don't believe that you'll have the support of the TEA Party on this one. Let's move to a different topic. What have you done when you left office? Yes, you've made it clear that you weren't interested in the position back in April. But you've recently changed your mind. During that time, you've started your own consulting firm, which was promptly hired by the lobbying firm of Dickstein Shapiro. Isn't that the same lobbying firm that made sizable donations to the campaigns of Max Baucus, Marion Berry, John Dingell, Barney Frank, Steny Hoyer, Patrick Leahy, Sheila Jackson Lee, Carl Levin, Sander Levin, John Lewis, Blanche Lincoln, Barack Obama, Harry Reid, Charlie Schumer, and Bart Stupak just last year alone? The same Dickstein Shapiro who also donated to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, Democratic State Central Committee of Maryland and the Democratic National Committee? I see. Well, thank you for your time, Mr. Hoekstra. We will let you know of our decision shortly.
