Airplanes Elections and Indiscriminate ExpensesBy JGillman, Section News
Obama was in Holland yesterday. He flew in on Air force One for a speech or two, snubbed a couple of Michigan dignitaries who were not in his party, and started working on his base for 2012. Well, at least Bill Huizenga didn't get any love from the man he helped with the debt ceiling increase:
"The freshman congressman, who did vote for the debt ceiling deal despite Tea Party criticism, said he contacted the White House about attending the event celebrating the company's advance battery manufacturing success, but an invite never came. What? Hurt feelings? The political season for Obama has just begun, and his propensity to use public funds to enhance his personal greatness is a phenomenon only imagined in our founder's worst nightmares. Congressman Huizenga should know better than to put any trust in the hyena of hyenas, Barack Obama. This trip was simply about Obama, not the area, its manufacturing, its workers, or any cooperation with a local Michigan government. Obama's disregard for the expense on his behalf says so. If only based on the flight time of Colonel "Jeeves" his personal jet driver. More Below ~
If that trip to Holland lasted only 4 hours, the use of Air Force One cost the taxpayer nearly three quarters of a million dollars. Three out of four parts of a million dollars spent by taxpayers toward political expansion of power by the president. $181,757 per hour is the operating cost for the President's personal limousine in the sky. The other costs associated with security measures are separate, and unavailable to us at this time, but even without those expenses known, the flight service alone is significant enough to have covered the operating deficits of any one of about 50 Michigan community governments for the year.
It's pretty simple. So that Holland Michigan could hear about the nasty political impasse for the nation's continuing economic woes, he reaches into our pockets. His fancy to politic on the public dime seems largely ignored however, and the question of legitimate political participation more than a year in front of the next presidential election is not even asked by most in the media, or those who have sufficient status in punditry land. He is getting a pass and continues to blame all others for the problems caused by himself and those in power who have operated in a like manner for too long. From Business week: His toughly worded message -- he said there was frustration in his voice, in case anyone missed the point -- came amid a series of polls showing that people are disgusted with political dysfunction and are dispensing blame all around, including on Obama. Blame. A friend writes (and you know who you are) that if we google "Obama Blames" it returns nearly 7 million results. When calculated for the number of days Obama has been alive, then down to the hour, it is 15.7 blames per hour, every hour for his entire life. That must take some serious practice. Given THAT math, and then the highlight of money spent to haul the Deficit In Chief in and out of Holland, we are reminded that he is only STARTING to work on his re-election. For the next year, the tanks on Air Force One will be topped off perpetually, direct from the strategic oil reserve, in an in-kind contribution method from the taxpayer. Averaging 4 hours per day, at $181,757 per hour, for only 300 days of the year, it means the President is dinging the taxpayer for an additional $200+ Million more for the sake of his political aspirations on fight services alone. It means his greenhouse gas footprint even beats that sweaty assaulter Al Gore in his collection of paradise equipped accommodations. And again, that isn't including the cost and impact of the traveling crew. Somehow, I have to think spending like this would be criticized more openly if the debt ceiling increase had been stopped. The sheath of fiscal responsibility carries a much sharper blade when honed with a tight budget. But what the heck, that's just water under the bridge, or under the flight plan.
