    Capitol wind advisory..

Winds expected to be blowing across Michigan seemingly emanating from Lansing with the intensity expected to be greatest after 7PM.

Unknown if they will be warm winds of recovery, or the cool breeze of indifference.  Forecasters expect however that the winds should NOT reach the scouring level of velocity experienced in the past 8 years.  Perhaps this time we will not be expecting to be 'blown away.'

Otherwise it will be cold outside. ..very cold.

Expect an open thread for the State of the state.

sharing the pain. I'll be curious to see just who that "everybody" is. I'll be looking at how many new taxes and fees (taxes) the "everybodies" will be paying so the union goons (the noble workers)and the People's University of Michigan can keep on paying people not to work with high benefits to boot. Those high paid university professors need to be off someplace "thinking" so the unionized teaching assistants can have jobs. "Everybody" should step up for that stuff right after hell freezes over.

Things will finally get interesting. (none / 0) (#2)

For someone who literally got elected into office on vague generalities and a MSM who was uncontrollably infatuated with him over the campaign, tonight's speech will definitely be interesting to watch.

    Nothing prepared.

No one has any foreknowledge of any specifics regarding the contents of his speech.

All from someone who has zero experience in directly dealing with other politicians on their turf.

    I foresee two possibilities.

1.) We'll have almost an hour of feel-good fluff talk and even more vague generalities from Gov Snyder, or...

2.) Much of what he'll propose will run afoul of Michigan Law & the Michigan Constitution that the lawyers will be tripping over themselves filing lawsuits first thing Thursday Morning.

...flagpole down near the meander line, and Old Glory is justa hangin' listlessly with no indication of any clear direction yet.  Perhaps that's a good sign 'cause in my neck of the woods, that howling wind that came from the North over the past eight years blew not only my flag in all of its glory to the South, it blew with it any prosperity too.

    We shall see...

    ...tonight is Game On.

"You're the most popular now that you'll ever be," Harding said. "Every day that you're in office, you make enemies. I would think this is extremely important -- probably the most important State of the State address he would give.

"It's very important for him to spell out specifics on what he intends to do."

    Yessiree.  That it is.

to the Lansing State Journal he has already met with the MEA and got their "input" on how to fund and improve education.

Why won't the MEA meet with the taxpayers and get their input?  I've got a thing or two to fix what ails education in this state.

Obama or Synder? Doesn't matter as they are one in the same. Had a feeling he would be the second of three disasters to befall Michigan.

I work in an industry that involves a lot of interaction with the state - it is going to be interesting to see what he has to say.  And living in the Lansing area you get a taste of which way the wind blows - especially when you see state workers everyday.

If he is going to go after the unions you can bet I will hear lots of whining day in and day out.

As far as I am concerned about half of the departments in Michigan government should be privatized.  If state employees think they are as good as they say they are - let them survive in the private sector.  Companies would get the cream of the crop from all walks of the employment sector, save the state money and add to the employment levels as well as the tax dole, all the while eliminating the legacy costs being foisted upon the taxpayers.

My biggest wish would be to eliminate teacher unions but we know that isn't going to happen in our life time.

Soooooo dinner is done, kleenex is ready for my increasingly runny nose and/or tears of sadness at where this state is headed and a cocktail to ease the pain.  I am not optimistic.
