Remember In November..By JGillman, Section News
One of the most disingenuous attempts to "help" citizens in the US has been the health care bill. An insidious power play that was RAMMED DOWN OUR THROATS without regard to effect on business, how it raises health care costs, or how it will deplete our health care systems of professionals was disregarded.
It was merely an attempt at putting one of the most important PRIVATE activities we have.. under government control. It was also a time where one could see the great divide in idealism exhibited by the Leftist Democrats and their counterparts, the Republicans. When the dust settled, only ONE republican, a pitiful RINO, Rep. Anh "Joseph" Cao in Louisiana decided voting FOR the progressive takeover "was necessary to keep his job." Te end result of the vote showed clearly.. there are still great differences between the Republicans and the Democrats, and the fanfare from local and state Democrat party folks here in Michigan demonstrated their allegiance to such anti constitutional tripe. One of those Michigan Democrats, while supporting the bill to "make health care affordable, was actually working to make it less affordable DIRECTLY..
In Late September of 2009, just as it has been, particularly in the past few years, Michigan's legislature was looking at closing budget holes. The refusal to reduce significant spending in any number of areas needed or otherwise, has consistently brought the Democrat side in particular to seek alternate ways of raising more funds for the insatiable state government appetite. Service Taxes, Graduated income discussions, new fees, etc..
But the one that stands out as completely illogical, given the stated desire to make Health care affordable was the suggestion of adding taxes to Doctors.
Michigan State Rep. Gary McDowell, D-Rudyard, said today that the Michigan House-Senate Conference Committee, which is looking for ways to erase a $2.8 billion budget deficit for fiscal 2010, is considering imposing a 3 percent provider tax on more than 15,000 physicians who practice in the state. I recall the ultimate head scratch... Under what type of perverted logic does one assess an additional cost onto the very thing that is being considered so burdensome already, that it must have individual responsibility stripped to make it "cheaper" to obtain. In other words.. If Health care is so expensive that it must have its "costs controlled" by government, why would a government then add a surcharge to help make it more affordable? Its because government has too many folks like McDowell serving too long already.
McDowell is a 28 year veteran of politics. He has learned how the voters respond. He knows people will tire out eventually and not pay attention so well. In fact I would wager MOST FOLKS, even those who read this site daily have probably forgotten THIS particular tax suggestion already. We move on to bigger and badder problems that government creates. Government that is full of Gary McDowells already.
This guy wants to take that type of thinking all the way to Washington. Michiganders.. particularly those in Michigan's 1st Congressional District.. Haven't we seen enough of THAT?
