    A Bad Light?

    Suffering a case of "too much to write about" block..  Really, I have no shortage of opinion on any number of topics, but just cannot narrow my focus for more than 2 minutes..

    In the mean time, I felt compelled to mention there is a premier on ABC tonight of a new COP SHOW!!  Woot! Yup.. On schedule, the every 8 year phenomenon continues to boggle the imagination.

    This time, they are in the 2nd most dangerous city in the world, kicking azz, and taking names.  Yup and as incredible as it might seem, there is a controversy surrounding the use of a city second only to Baghdad in its danger quotient for the new crime drama:

    DETROIT -- Detroit 187 premiers Tuesday on ABC 29&8 but the show doesn't come without some controversy.

    Some residents in Detroit think the shows title 187, which is police code for homicide, paints a negative light on Detroit.

    Paint?  Who needs paint?

    My guess is the film crews have only been "skirting" the real Detroit.  Nothing portrayed in this fictional series could be as bad as the naked reality of the "forgotten" and ignored places seen safely only through mediums like Google earth.

    The company I work for supplies surveying equipment and instruments for surveyors and engineers in Michigan.  In the last four years firms doing work in the Detroit area have had thousands of dollars worth of equipment stolen from their job sites or vehicles.  On several occassions the thieves immediately call our office (800 number is on a sticker on the instrument and cases) and they want to know how much they can get for these "cameras".  They think the instruments are cameras and the surveying crews are law enforcement scoping out their territory!  Surveying firms now have to hire security firms to go on jobs with them in Detroit to protect their personnel and equipment. All adds up to extra costs because of the lawlessness in the big D.

    Consumers Energy and DTE are customers of ours and they too have to hire off duty police officers to protect their vehicles and personnel when doing work in Detroit.  When their personnel are up on the ladders working the lines their vehicles are being stolen right out from underneath them.  

    The police do not even bother with the complaints because they are too busy with other more serious crimes.  A GPS unit geared for surveying runs $25K per unit.  Pretty expensive to do business in Detroit.

    The folk in Detroit deserve what they get.  They've chosen the life of living on the Dimocrat plantation instead of being free thinkers that demand better.

    Jesus H Christ!  Detroit voted for an asshat that says Mexican's were here before America was an idea.  Hello?!?!?!

    Honestly, it being costly to do business in Detroit is a thing of the past.  It has crept throughout Wayne County and parts of Oakland, Macomb and Monroe Counties too.

    ... and it was Yet Another Cop Show.  Besides, the pilot wasn't even filmed in Detroit. (BTW, when did the broadcast nets decide that 10pm to 11pm would exclusively become the People Who Work For Government and Have Guns hour?)
