Who are the NERD fund donors Mr Snyder?

    Raise the curtain.

    UAW Sues itself... and you.

The UAW has filed a lawsuit seeking $450 million for pensions related to the sale of Delphi, and has named General Motors as a defendant.  Nothing abnormal about labor unions hitting up the deep pocketed car companies for promises presumably made while negotiating with executives long gone..

GM breached a contract promising to fund a voluntary employee beneficiary association, or VEBA, for Delphi retirees, according to the lawsuit filed yesterday in Detroit federal court. General Motors, Delphi's former owner, made the promise in 2007. The court overseeing Delphi's bankruptcy approved the agreement in October 2009, the union said.

In October, "the UAW made a written demand that the company honor its contractual obligation to make the foregoing payment to the DC VEBA," the union said in its complaint. In November, "that UAW demand was rejected and since that time the company has failed and refused to make the contractually required payment."

Amazing what happens as soon as GM announces it has a billion bux to work with.

Except this time those "deep" pockets are their own..  and yours. As reported over the last year, GM is primarily owned by the federal government, and the UAW.  A total of 89% owned by a ridiculous arrangement that was easily managed by our federal masters.

And those federal masters will capitulate to the unions.  The unions need that money.  Not for pensions, but for continued lobbying efforts and posturing for what will be the Armageddon of politics come November.  Who would make sure the presumably defunded pensions will get the money anyhow? The union's partner, Barry Obama?

No..  A $billion is a $billion.. and half will go to political efforts.  Strangely, it isn't even all of the money the unions seek from the company they "own":

He points out that much of the fourth-quarter loss was due to one-time items, such as a $2.6 billion settlement loss related to the UAW retiree medical plan. Without those one-time items, the loss would have been closer to $600 million in the quarter.

Pretty sweet deal the UAW has worked out..

Force the company the UAW members work for, into bankruptcy, massage the political process to elect leadership that will "take ownership" in private business, then give a large chunk back to the union for presumed "obligations", and the remainder of the obligations can be "milked out" through other lawsuits, so that the Union itself remains fat, and the workers live off unemployment and STILL pay the taxes to complete the full circle jerk of the unholy Union/Government relationship.

See you at a Tea party.. OK?

Now, just wait until the majority owners of GM and Chrysler are able to apply cost crippling pressure onto their non union competitors.

Ah, one should marvel at the innovation of liberal fascists.

Incidentally Jason, I accidentally posted something to the multimedia page that belongs on the news page. Can you fix? (It wouldn't hurt either if you deleted my double post.)

The perfect argument for (none / 0) (#2)

Right to work and for agressive enforcement of the RICO laws. It wouldn't take a great deal of looking to find enough to send a bunch of folks in the Regime and the Useless Auto Workers off for a nice vacation at the Ironbar Hotel.

    What about Toyota? (none / 0) (#4)

What about the $131 million being hand off to the PBGC, err, U.S. taxpayers?  Toyota isn't F'ing bankrupt, so WTF is this?

Not a peep from John "friend of the big three" Dingellosaurus.  Carl & Sandy Levin?  Debbie & Tom "I've got a$150 burning a hole in my pocket" Stabenow.

The other side of the aisle isn't any better about this either.
