Michigan's Democrat party saw its choices thin again as a result of another gubernatorial candidate inserting toes and coming out with a case of frostbite.
In a year that will likely bring strong gains for conservatives and republicans alike, it appears there would be little gained even for name recognition by the bit players in the Democrat left. Former treasurer Bob Bowman took one look at Michigan's finances, the party in power and said.. umm yeah.. I don't think so... From the Detroit News:
Bowman formed an exploratory committee last week but said in his statement he was compelled to do so because he had spent over $500 in considering a bid. But there exists nothing so compelling to bring the former Michigander back home to give it a go for the top executive office. Who needs him anyway right?
Consider that the Democrat party leadership is scrambling to find a suitable candidate to put up against that "upstart" Andy Dillon. In truth, this makes it oh-so-much harder for them to not accept their fate as having to back the tax raising Dillon who had the GALL to suggest that the state consider looking at the health care policies of Michigan employees, and encourage savings by pooling costs.
Anything but that. Big labor makes good money from those mixed up policies.. money that can support grander visions for big labor influence in government! ..darn it.
And the Democrats do so dearly like grand things like grand paychecks for union leaders.. And they must listen to those leaders. Especially since the union element in this state owns lock stock and barrel, the Democrat machine in Michigan. Its their toy, their plaything, and test vehicle all in one. Of course its one they drove into a frosty winter lake repeatedly over the last several years, with our current governor doing some crazy back seat driving. Aside from the state drowning in debt, its hard to hold your attention to which way is up when you are cold, and the world is spinning so badly, and for so long. Nope.. Bowman would have none of that. Seeing the writing on the wall, or perhaps even more appropriately... the skid marks where the pavement ends, he declined the invitation to go for the ride.
