    Remembering Martin Luther King, Jr.

The significance of this holiday to the Civil Rights movement is not lost on me. In fact, I was born with it and a product of it. On this Martin Luther King Day, we reflect upon how the honored Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. led the defiance of the Establishment to change a culture of racism into one respecting human dignity through the Brotherhood of Man, preaching equality of opportunity, not outcomes. It led to the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. I strongly urge you to do your own research on how this came about, but paying close attention to the "by whom" category. In light of the apparent support for Democrats by some 95% of the black community today, it matters who gets the credit.

Here are the facts: In the 26 major civil rights votes after 1933, a majority of Democrats opposed civil rights legislation in over 80 percent of the votes. By contrast, the Republican majority favored civil rights in over 96 percent of the votes. (See Henry Rhodes's analysis at http://www.yale.edu/ynhti/curriculum/units/1982/3/82.03.04.x.html)

For the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the House vote was firmly driven by Republicans with 80% support, and the Dems trailed with only 61% (meaning 39% of Dems actually voted against it). In the Senate 84% of Republicans supported it, while only 67% of Dems did (again, meaning a full 33.3%, of Democrats voted against). Regardless of what anyone has ever been told about the difference between Republicans and Democrats, one thing is strikingly clear: Ever since President Lincoln freed the slaves, Republicans have been the Champions of Civil Rights, receiving little credit for it today.

Credit matters if you want to continue electing people that are really on the same side of politics that you are. To do so, it takes defiance of the marketing ploys perpetrated by liars and issue thieves. For example, the Dixiecrats were so named because they were Democrats who were southern segregationists. As a result of heavy debate on Civil Rights, some of them converted to the Republican party because they had an change of heart, likely fearing for their very souls. But the Dems today don't tell you this, do they? Some black leaders have circumvented the lies and have had a similar change of heart about Republicans, concentrating on the Conservatism of the Republicans, for example, Dr. King's niece, Alveda King.

The tough sell about Conservatism is that it dwells upon the independence of the individual through hard work, moral code, and family values. Let us remember, individual independence is the rock upon which individual liberty is based. On the other hand, government dependence is the giving-up of liberty in exchange for illusory financial security and the surety of government telling you how you're going to live. Glenn Beck had a great program about this just last week in which we heard from many great, black Americans like Charles Payne, a self-proclaimed graduate of Harlem. But make no mistake, these are not just black community issues, historically they broaden to all since the government has stepped up its efforts to capture more and more people of every demographic in their web of dependence over the last 40 years and called it social justice. In defense of Constitutional Liberty, Conservatism appeals to the entire Brotherhood of Man. Thank you, Dr. Martin Luther King!

CMU is in the midst of Martin Luther King Week.

For its keynote speaker CMU selected Danny Glover who runs from country to country embracing Marxist thugs at the same time that he decries the sins of America.

Who today really believes that Glover's political antics are in any way similar to King's?

King's ideals have been hijacked by leftist activists and places like CMU are the biggest enablers.

    Okay.  Back to election results.
